Geronimo is to be put to sleep tomorrow.

I agree that, if he has TB he should be destroyed, but what if his owner is right and the test is flawed.

It's not really just about one animal amongst thousands that are slaughtered daily it's about the heavy-handedness and inflexible government rules (not just the Tories or the UK govt).

I didn't realise that this has been dragging on for four years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geronimo_(alpaca)
And I hadn't realised his parents were Canchones Ferragamo ET and Chelamar Gypsy Lass.

Did it mention siblings?

I skimmed through it. I was shocked that he had his own wiki page.☺

But then - why not? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_(cat)
but Felix has to share a page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huddersfield_railway_station#Station_cats
Poor animal dragged off by men in full PPE gear with police in attendance. Shame on the owner for allowing this spectacle to take place and shame on mankind for killing an animal just because he MAY have been carrying TB. We are just coming through a major pandemic caused by mankind and killing many, BUT will anybody pay the price for this - will they hell !!! PATHETIC ...
he was put down to protect other animals, which isn't so very inhumane
All of it was inhumane !
Agree Shirley. Actually, as I said before, man is the major problem on this planet.
I've subscribed to that view for a long, long time now pat ...
Me too Shirley. I certainly can't understand why humans can think they are more important just because they have more developed brains. And,to be honest, I can't relate to people who think that way. We have not used our intelligence wisely. Just look at the state of this planet!

I believe that IF he has TB or was a carrier then there would be no option but to put him to sleep.

If the tests were not accurate then there may be further legal action.

I didn't watch he video so I cant really comment on that.

The protesters just made a bad situation into a media circus.

Wolf, we don't 'put to sleep' the millions of living creatures we eat (or leave and throw away in the bin) every year; we 'slaughter' them without a second's thought for most people. I'm a vegetarian and I find it really odd that meat eaters can be so sentimental about some animals and not others.
Question Author
Atheist
I actually agree with you. I am a meat eater but still consider myself to be an animal lover. It seems illogical.

I think that, in the future, our species will mostly be vegetarians.
'who's going to play the title role, anne?'

Larry Lamb has been pencilled in.
Some of us thought something like this would happen. Why won't they allow an independent vet to monitor Geronimo's PM? No prizes for guessing. Will we ever know the truth now?

Executed alpaca Geronimo's owner calls on Environment Secretary George Eustace to resign as officials REFUSE to allow an independent vet to monitor the animal's post-mortem

Nor should they allow one ! It is an animal FGS that had twice tested positive for TB
When was the last time they had an independent PM for a cow or any other slaughtered animal ?
Just because the animal is furry and cute it seems that it tugs on the heartstrings of some
Shame on the owner for turning it into a media circus just because she did not get her own way
//Shame on the owner for turning it into a media circus just because she did not get her own way//

Spot on, sticky.

The woman was on a mission, and one which unfortunately led the hapless animal to suffer more stress than was necessary. Farmers across the land lose animals in this way all the time. They accept it because they know the rules are necessary. The vet is called, does the business and the remains are quietly shipped off to the knackers. This woman didn't want that.

TB or not TB, that is the question.

Jose Merino?
...that is the question.
