Geronimo is to be put to sleep tomorrow.

I agree that, if he has TB he should be destroyed, but what if his owner is right and the test is flawed.

It's not really just about one animal amongst thousands that are slaughtered daily it's about the heavy-handedness and inflexible government rules (not just the Tories or the UK govt).

Naomi don't watch the BBC News today if you don't want to see it. It was on at lunchtime and probably will be at 6pm as well.
Funny how everyone is upset about one animal that will eventually die anyway but most on another thread could not care less that humans are killing the planet
Oh the irony

237sj. Simple really, l love animals and do not love deceitful, selfish, greedy, stupid, ignorant, duplicitous, violent, mankind.

I admit to feeling much the same, David. The older I get the more I feel this way. I believe also that this world had been ruined by mankind and it's about time that the world ended this present 'age'. I have compassion for all animals, including human animals. Just because they have developed better brainpower doesn't make humans superior.
Dragging poor Geromino the Alpaca across from his field to a van to shoot him must have been terrifying for him. Could'nt they have found a more peaceful way to put him to sleep without all the hullabaloo and noise which was so unnecessary. I had tears in my eyes watching the way he was dragged to his death. Shame on you DEFRA and the government for all this unnecessary pain and suffering.
Cashier, police were required because of the presence of the woman's supporters. They would have not allowed a vet to simply rock up and euthanise the animal.
bakerwales; no, shame on the animal's owner for necessitating this spectacle.
RIP Geronimo :o(
Ken-Why kill him in that way making a public spectacle of it - why not just put him to sleep quietly like you would a dog etc. And all the noise of this must have been terrifying for him. And before you start on about how cows/pigs/lambs are killed - I don,t agree with the way they are killed either, the smell of blood before they are stunned must be scarey for them and don't get me started on how they kill chickens or halal meat. And no I do not eat meat as a few years ago I saw first hand how they kill the meat we eat and have never touched it since.

The owner would not let them kill the animal quietly. It did not fit in with her agenda. The way things turned out was manna from heaven for her and her supporters.
I have said my piece regarding how I feel about this - you have said yours - Just agree to disagree on the subject and don't watch the news tonight as it will be all over it as it was at lunchtime.
Have to say I agree with Ken @14.26
Had the owner complied with the initial order this spectacle would have been avoided
A book and a film out by Christmas .
who's going to play the title role, anne?

I hope it goes to a proper alpaca actor rather than blacking up a llama or vicuna.
Idris Elba - if he misses out on the Bond gig.

I think that are many faults on all sides.

I presume that will be a post mortem to assure people that euthanizing him was the right move (or the wrong thing to do).

can you tuberculin test dead animals?
If there is a PM, surely it ought to be carried out by DEFRA and a veterinary expert representing Helen Macdonald. That way, only the truth will out.
Finding out that Geronimo was free of TB would be certain to open a big can of worms.
But if she doesn't have a rep there, Danny, how many of her supporters would take the word of DEFRA that the animal did indeed have TB?
Question Author
This could be the start of a new Conspiracy theory.
