I was visiting a wheelchair-bound, feisty, 93-yr-old Yorkshire lady this afternoon. She has family who have used up days of holiday, booked rooms etc.. First thing as I sat down she came out with anger at the cancellation. Many cogent reasons why the match should have gone ahead - why, she demanded, if the team is OK, can't they play?
Seriously, it is serious and important that these things carry on. She said it was all money and a few other choice things. Listen, this lady was head of the local W.I. for years and amongst those who slow-clapped Blair.
So apart from the disappointment, unnecessary expense, wasted time and sheer anger at the 'kow-towing to stupid rules' when they are all vaccinated - I assume. I there a reason?
The Test series should be voided. Captains, players and selectors work on 5 matches and decisions are made on that basis. I rather tend to agree with my indomitable old friend. She lives in constant pain and T.V. is her escape; she loves cricket.
