The question asked was about Britain's recovery so for him to say 'Never mind….' there must have been a question referring to health interrupting his response - but that doesn't appear to have been reported. I don't believe for one moment that he doesn't care about cancer patients… but jump on the bandwagon in an 'outraged' (as the newspaper would have it) manner by all means. Par for the course.

If you watched the video, you'd see that Boris actually interrupts the interviewer to say what it is he wants to say, rather than wait for the question. The interviewer then gives him time to say it. No interruptions. And after two "Erms" - uninterrupted - to gather his thoughts after he's started a sentence with "Never mind", Boris comes up with "you know, cancer outcomes" to finish the sentence. That's what I see.

Decide for yourself. Here is what he said:
I’ve given you the most important metric. Never mind life expectancy. Never mind cancer outcomes. Look at wage growth. Wage growth is now being experienced faster by those on lower incomes. It hasn’t happened for 10 years or more. That is what I mean by levelling up.

Given Ellipsis's quote, it sounds like 'levelling up' (yuk) was under discussion and the interviewer threw in a couple of 'what about' 'questions' about disparities in life expectancy and cancer outcomes.
So Boris just pointed out he was talking financially, not everything under the sun.
So I'm guessing the Indy clip was taken out of context. (shock, horror)
And I'm not a Boris supporter before the usual 'gobs on sticks' start.
