What Do The Climate Change Activists Want And What Do They Suggest We Do To Achieve It?
They always say they want more done to combat climate change but there are never any specifics. Looking at most of the banners you see on the marchers it seems its more about socialism and anti capitalism rather than the climate which is what I have suspected all along.

To be a CCA, you need an unassaible level of arrogance and self- importance. Your default position is that only you, and people who think like you, actually understand what is going on in the world - everyone else is just a stupid ignorant moron who doesn't care, and is happy to blunder into the apocolypse without a care in the world. Of course, this is as fatuous...

That would be the BA that tells us what all Climate Change Campaigners have an unassailable level of arrogance - written by some with an unassailable level of arrogance will it?
Andy if you feel this is a 'lost cause' , you may be right for your generation and mine but for goodness sake, consider those of your Children, Grandchildren etc.

the worlds biggest polluters have to make the change, but they wont
as it will effect there economy, and as andy says, cost misery change etc...news today chip wrapper tommorow, if you think about it, all the worlds elite got together to talk, yet flew in jets when they could have video conferenced the the lot of it, big speeches promises etc, personally i think nothing will change until a cataclysmic event happens, like erm earthquake swallows california, endless hurricanes sweeping across the planet, giant hole opens in the ozone layer decimating half the planet, until then.. que sera, sera, blackfriday soon so spend consume waste.. and so it goes, greta will have to learn to yodel.

Your reply suggests that true believers have inside knowledge and will be spared the horrors to come, Stickybottle
Nobody will be spared anything
Not enough are willing to make the necessary changes
Despite Attenboroughs pleas it is probably too late
We will not suffer but our grandchildren will

AndyH, it's a little misleading to blame China and Russia. They have much larger populations than the UK, for a start. If you're going to mention the largest contributors to climate change you should include the USA as well (2nd only behind China, with a per capita carbon footprint three times that of the UK). India is also a major producer of CO2 emissions but again has a large population, and a carbon footprint per capita less than half that of the UK's . Unless we address our own emissions we risk being accused of hypocrisy when we try to blame other countries.
Additionally we should also consider that the UK is indirectly responsible for the emissions of other countries such as China, because we buy goods that are made there. If there were no demand for these goods, China wouldn't make them.

Thanks B in W. It's difficult to have a sensible debate about this subject - the loudest voices seem to be the extremists on both sides. The solutions are difficult, but I don't think that they are impossible. Realistically, I can't see us moving to 100% renewable energy in the short to medium term, nor is it realistic to expect everyone to give up meat or stop using their cars. One technology I'm especially interested in is CCS (carbon capture and storage). The technology already exists, and can be retrofitted to existing coal and gas power stations, to remove much of the CO2 from fossil fuels by dissolving it in a solvent which is then heated to release pure CO2 to be compressed and stored. There is also pre-combustion capture, which involves extracting the carbon from fossil fuel and producing hydrogen which can then be burned to produce electricity or used as a green fuel. This is much newer technology but unfortunately cannot be retrofitted. I'd be interested to hear other ABers' views on this.
