also recalls the standard ( 'simple' but perhaps not for Abers hur hur hur) EIR model for covid - free pools, eligible, infected,recovered

eligible leads to infected at a rate, infected leads to recovered
and you set up time equations ( hey Dr Who-ey innit). It allows you to model surprisingly accurately. ( infected pool depends on the susceptible numbers AND the no of infected, which makes it non linear)

ALSO implies that vaccinated is 100% which we know is not
AND ignores the differential effects of vaccine

yes in short - the death ratio in olds is rising in Europe and flat ( but high ) in England and no one has the first idea why

I think it has nothing to do with ‘the olds’
I believe it is more to do with bed capacity
As I said on another thread if you have a virus that requires an inordinate number of patients to be ventilated then it becomes very tricky

I heard an interesting piece on Radio Four yesterday, that advises that there is something deep in the Germanic psyche (and that includes the surrounding countries) that deeply mistrusts and fears vaccinations.

Apparently it dates back to the Nazi era, and modern Germans still fight shy of vaccines - hence the reluctance for such large sections of the nation to embrace vaccination, and the resultant rampant infection rates.

We, as one of the highest per capita vaccinated nations in the word, are steadily moving away from the grip of the pandemic.

We are quite content to do nothing.

Germany has vaccinated more people than the UK. It has vaccinated 67.7% of its population. The UK vac rate is 68.1% which is a very insignificant difference.

We are not even the most vaccinated in Europe.
France, Italy Spain and Portugal (and probably several others) have a better rate than the UK.

It is also possible to be both vaccinated and recovered, or vaccinated and dead. They aren't mutually exclusive. He has forgotten to add unvaccinated or ill.
