...This would fix it in short order but I can't see the French agreeing, too much like common sense.

France seem shortsighted on Al this to me. Surely they see the channel is a magnet that draws many thousands to Calais turning it in to a big dump and causing travelers across France. Stop the dinghies, clear the sites in calaise and in time the message will get through. TTT is right. Boris is right but hid delivery is rubbish. To be fair tho am sure his team has...

//and im delighted we are out of it, for all the above reasons.//

Here, here!!!
Fender, I don't think Macron had any part in the Tweet that Boris published so how can it be a 'ruse'. If Boris had taken his ideas to the meeting on Sunday at least they would have listened -now the UK has been un-invited. Whatever the real reason for this ban, Macron was handed an excuse on a plate by Boris.
'Our own Trump'?
We should be so lucky.
I can't, surely, be the only one convinced that the French are happily waving migrants over the Channel? There were 2 gendarmes pictured watching a boat set off (it may have been the one that sank). Gendarmes are all armed and trained. All they had to do was put a bullet or two through the inflatable boat. That would have stopped it OK - and people would still have been alive. They must have been told not to interfere.
You’re not the only one, jourdain. See my post at 15.30.
Jourdain I think thats a given - if it were immigrants trying to get out of Dover to get to France I doubt our bobbies would be trying to stop them. They have no legal reason to stop them. Thats what the talks are supposed to be about that the UK are now banned from going to.
AuntPG, uk police would stop them as there boat or dinghy would be unsafe, and if it sank uk side, then thye woould get the blame for not stopping them, maritime law safetly of boats etc.
///If they got sent back to France every time they'd stop going over the channel and then they'd see it was pointless even going to Northern France. QED, no one crossing, no one waiting to cross, no money for the people traffickers. Problems sorted for us both. Simples///

lol, so they'd just stay in France, and that would solve France's "issue".

Mind like a steel trap!
Bit of an own goal from Boris.
By publishing private correspondence on Twitter, making it very public, the inevitable replay, a slap in the face with a kipper, was also done in public.
Could have all been avoided with a bit of common sense and traditional diplomacy.
I suppose it's only to be expected that the world would converge in ever greater numbers on the post-Brexit paradise that is Britain today
the world

Only the bits that no body else wants.

mozz: "I'll remind you of this post next time you go into one about Greta Thunberg. ;-) " - I don't see how that's comparable. She has no ideas at all and picks on the wrong targets about her particular bee in her bonnet.
Question Author
fender: "he does not want them in france as they cause no amount of trouble and expense for them, the french people do not want them either, " - this idea will get them out of France. Surely he can overlook the delivery of the idea and look at its merits.

jno: "lol, so they'd just stay in France, and that would solve France's "issue".

Mind like a steel trap! " - do try and engage the brain love, these people want to get to Britain, if they learn that they cannot do that via France they'll try another way from another country, they wont go from France because they'll get sent straight back, geddit? So they'll leave France, both UK and France have their problem solved. Mind like a colander.
To be fair tho am sure his team has already suggested this obvious way to macron and macron was'nt interested so Boris tried this. Or maybe his incompetent. Or both
… and then the problem will merely move somewhere else of course.

It was interested to see the photo of one of the “less mouths to feed” on the front of the papers today.
Maybe not most peoples idea of who these “migrants” are (it wasn’t mine either I’m ashamed to say)
We will never get any agreement as long as Macron is in charge,
no we won't Danny.

I think when Macron calms down a bit he'll realise that Boris is right and he can solve his problem and gain some popularity with his public. Give it a couple of weeks and it'll quieten down and get done.
