We are told that LFT's should only be used before there are symptoms. I have been trying to find out what the science is behind this (not that i disbelieve it or am against testing) Someone who understands a bit has told me that the reason is that too high a viral load on the test denatures the enzyme used and therefore the test doesn't work. I have hunted and hunted but can't find any research or evidence on this and wondered if anyone with proper knowledge can help?
Thank you.
Yes I know I have put this in the "wrong" category but covid testing IS news and I thought I'd get more traffic here

On the BEEB;

'Boris Johnson says that at least one patient has been confirmed to have died with Omicron in the UK - the first death recorded with that variant.

Speaking during a visit to a vaccination clinic near Paddington, in west London, the PM says: "Sadly yes Omicron is producing hospitalisations and sadly at least one patient has been confirmed to have died with Omicron.'

n.b."died with Omicron"

you should be a jesuit
or work in No 10

news at 1300 - first omicron death - dopey Ferge. - and yeah, so dopey that it cd be stroke or cancer

I dont know - I am just an old retired classicist, egyptologist ( AD only ) nubiologist ( pre AD 1500 only) , ex Porton Lab rat, lawyer ( failed) acct ( also failed) and a bit more - so what would I know? (*)

(*) some wd also say, well known AB troll and trouble maker but I'm NOT! I'm NOT- I am just a misunderstood OAP
OK so I believed Boris

is that SUCH a great sin ?
the Prof.

The AB is quite a different animal as you have clearly learnt and is a matter of " if you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

AB is a misnomer it being mainly a social media platform.
At one time we had a Facio -maxillary surgeon, aHaematologist, an Optician and a reputable scientist on AB who had had enough and left the website.

With this in mind, please continue posting.
The haematologist to be fair wasnt driven out - her father was a Professor mind you...
and may still do cross words

The Prof gave some very clear answers, and Khandro at length did the Khandro chop - - "I dont care what you say, I am not having the vaccination" - which took me by surprise

Khandro and omicron see above
we could call it, the dative-ablative question
to wit: is it to or for? by with or from - - Covid

Latinists will recognise this from Ritchie Benauds - First steps in Latin and kennedy First Primer of Eating - Latin I mean.

Like Covid, covid deniers are a fact of life and will always be with us - You mean they wont die out from er Covid or anything?
nope
they will merely die "with" old age, I expect. Fortunately not Theprof's speciality, otherwise he really would be tearing his hair.
P.P. Wystan Hugh Auden, (W.H. to you) claimed that whenever he was asked what did, he said he was an Egyptologist.
JIM, thanks for that. Shortly after I asked, I noticed I was able to get the report link to display the answer number but I wondered if there was a quick way to get the correct link.

I don't need to use it very often but it was niggling me that I couldn't see how to get it.

Regarding the search function, it took me a while to twig why some searches result in multiple results for the same thread.
P.P. I didn't say I was against vaccination per se, I've had two, but there's the rub, with the second I fainted & went on to have an effing stroke & I'm now on daily medication because of it; enough is enough sez I

Don't worry they'll soon be along with a fourth & probably a fifth
My favourite Tory MP says his piece, with intelligence, insight & his customary light touch:

Well it seems I missed the views expressed by one individual earlier today here on AB. An individual who chose to extract specific sentences from my posts and commented critically on the issues contained within those sentences, neatly evading the other matters in the post.

The frustration of the poster over government policy is evident. However, the poster has no right to direct the frustration in my direction. In the event that he fails to find the answers on AB, I suggest he seeks the answers elsewhere. Let me be clear: I will not discuss why I am in agreement with certain aspects of government policy as they involve issues that I am not at liberty to discuss. The poster is free to consider that the latter sentence is a cop-out but I will not provide bullets to criticise government policy by revealing information to assuage
frustration with this government nor will I meekly accept your annoyance because I'm the closest person to government you have to vent you anger. Consider writing to your MP.

Sqad, I'm very grateful for your remarks and I'd like to thank you and others for your faith in me. I can say that I've no intention of leaving AB for as long as you all will have me. I have indeed encountered these situations before but I'll try not to join that long list of those we have lost.

Peter, you hit the nail on the head when you said the poster had not stuck his nose in a virus laboratory. Nuff said.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

You have a lot of support here, I guess there will always be some dissent and often it's from the same source.

Keep it up Prof.
Ditto Mamy's answer from me- thanks for your info prof.
you're perfectly clear, theprof, please stick around.
Another ditto from me. Prof - your posts are valuable, I read them with interest & have learned much, thank you again.
Thanks for your response, prof.

I will only say this then I'm out. I fully respect your reasons for not responding on political aspects of the pandemic. I had not seen any posts prior to this one where you had explained that you would not. If I had been instructed that I had to forfeit my right to express my personal opinions, especially anonymously, then I might look for another job. But then that's between you and your employer.

However, you expressed a political opinion ("I'm with the great and good on this" or similar - I can't be bothered to look back). This clearly (to me anyway) demonstrates you support certain aspects of government policy and that's what gave rise to my question.

I'm not frustrated with government policy on the pandemic. I've rather given up on there being any change of tack and I simply hope that neither I nor any of mine contract any disease or ailment other than Covid because if we do we may as well simply go down to the gun room with a bottle of Scotch. You are by no means the closest person to government I have upon whom to vent my anger and in fact that was not what I was doing. In fact I don't know how close you really are to government and scarcely care. I was simply seeking clarification of something you wrote. But since it's clear now that you are unprepared to do so unless it suits you, I'll do as I said earlier and steer clear.
Thanks, pp. Just to clarify... that means just using the solution on a covid test, won't activate the control?
Radio 4 - today - now
it is a "data buffet" - there is such a lot in conflict with each other
you chose which data you like and run with it.

doubling time of 2 d seems pretty impressive
oh and the broadcaster pointed out that it took Dec 2020 five weeks of covid before the first one died.

Sorry, theprof, missed that. Please, carry on.
you better ask prof - he is back on line
but the answer is yes
( I did it - sort of missed my nose really and control turned out neg)
