…You have to rely on the Labour Party to save your blushes.
Nearly 100 Tories revolt and do not support their own Government.
Clearly a party deeply divided.
I wonder what the people of Shropshire North are making of tonights shenanigans ?

Interesting analysis by Laura Kuenssberg here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59656616
it's good that even Labour agree with the government. Maybe Rodders is finally seeing sense.
Question Author
Thanks Buenchico, that was useful.

I don’t always agree with Kuenssberg’s analysis, but that was spot on.

Since the bye-election was called I considered a 23,000 majority unloseable. But backbench Tory MPs wishing for it to be lost, to give Boris a wake up call kick in the goolies, makes me ponder the LibDems could take the seat.
But it will be close. Less than a thousand votes in it, either way, is my prediction.
gromit: "But backbench Tory MPs wishing for it to be lost, to give Boris a wake up call kick in the goolies," - who has said they hope the seat is lost?
have you tried reading the link, TTT?
Question Author
TTT,
It helps if you bother to read the links which you so strenuously urge posters to supply.

// One insider said: "I hope we lose it, because it would give them a real kick in the pants to say, this problem is very, very great." //

An un-named source, but apparently a real back-bencher.
jno there is no link in the OP. I have read the link above, it does not say any MPs are hoping to lose the bye election. It says " some Conservatives might be happy to see it lost" - that the opinion of the author and usage of the word "might" indicates that it's a vague speculation at that. It seems RBID is once again evident.
Question Author
TTT,
How do you think the bye-election will pan out.
Surely you are betting £ mega bucks on a Tory Hold?
I assume, still no one will back Labour for the next election?
gromit: "TTT,

Surely you are betting £ mega bucks on a Tory Hold? " - no I'm not sure of that, It's quite possible that it'll be overturned.
Question Author
// It's quite possible that it'll be overturned. //

LOL.

I assume you do not mean the Tories will will and a Starmerite will overturn it in 2024.
we are talking about the bye election are we not? It will definitely be Tory after the next GE.
Question Author
// we are talking about the bye election are we not? It will definitely be Tory after the next GE. //

So you do not want to discuss the bye-election.
what are you wittering on about? I am talking about the bye election it's you that started talking about the next general election. I already agreed that it's quite possible that the bye election will be lost at 00:42. What more do you want?
Question Author
I will not call the bye-election now.
I am not confident the Tories will lose. But equally, I am not confident the LibDems will win it.
I will post on Thursday, a thread asking for your predictions.
For gromit and other sufferers of RBID:
It's possible that the Tories will lose the bye election on Thursday.
It's impossible that the seat will not be Tory after the next GE.
I hope that clarifies the position.
Gromit: "I will post on Thursday, a thread asking for your predictions. " - I can give you that now, I have no prediction, I can't call it, the Tories may well lose the seat like I keep saying.
OK I have to log in to work, TTFN.

Good night TTT, hope you have a good (uneventful) shift, catch up tomorrow :-)
I feel your pain, hate it when the five minute freeview looms. :-)
