// Queuing round the block to get tested? Why would you set yourself up to ruin Christmas for yourself? //
Because I am ill and my employer insists I get it checked before I work with colleagues and customers. And I will be seeing vulnerable relatives in the next week, whoch I won’t do if the test is positive.

Trouble is douglaswhile I'm not as witty as you or as good at English I am confident my maths is well above average and yes I know that infections would need to double... are you sure thats not what was said because this does seem twice as fast at spreading

//// Am unclear though on the basis of these figures.//
the number of tests are published every day - yes they are//
Well you misundastood what we'er talking about PP. We know test fugures are published daily but tehres no breakdown of whats included--- PCRs probably are if done via NHS, but what about private ones for a flight to/from Europe or Pakistan, or about the LFTs that are handed out like confetti and few report there results and noone knows how manys done. That was what we'er qerying

I'm quite hopeful about some of the signs. Yes infections are going to stay high and may reach 150000 a day soon.... but boosters are kicking in, lots of people are being cautious and considerate about testing before family gatherings, schools are closed for 2 weeks, theres no sign yet of big increase's in hospital cases.... theres a chance this may not be too bad but its better to wait and see before we start partying like its 1999 or locking down
//If it's doubling every few days it won't be long before everyone & his dog has it - so what's the point of masks & isolating/distancing?//
Err its doubling because many people are not distancing enough etc... if you stay at home on your own or keep a few metres away outside you wont catch it and the doubling rate will slow down if everyone takes care

The "figures" issued are bunkum. Even the UK Health Security Agency(a very 1984 sounding title)has distanced itself from its own message of doom.
