Wrong way round ... cases were rising so they increased restrictions slightley, they hope the restrictions will slow the increase down and stop it getting out of hand.... only time will tell if it was right or not enough or an overreaction

Ive never heard so many friends, family and neighbours in wales and england report covid infections as in the last few days. One group all went to same function and lots were positive a few days later. Fortunately none are in hospital at this stage but its clear theres a growth in infections, the key is whether its feeding through to hospitals
SQAD, the data for various days are delayed and this link shows the categories and dates affected.

//In answering this question, has anyone seen the Covid figures over the festive period?//
Yes I have.
New cases (UK Total):
Dec 25th 113,628
Dec 26th 103,558
Dec 27th 98,515
Reported deaths over those three days (UK Total): 146 (no daily breakdown available).
Hospital Admissions (England only):
Dec 24th 1,020
Dec 25th 1,281
Numbers in hospital (England only):
Dec 24th 7.366
Dec 25th 7,166
Dec 26th 7,536
Dec 27th 8,474
I'm sure the PM has more in depth figures than I have.
Those suggesting that deciding to take no action is a cop-out are wrong. It is probably the most difficult decision to make. A cop out would have been to impose a full lock down on the country and hope for a different outcome than on the last occasions such action was taken.

An interesting experiment. Most of Europe increase restrictions 3 weeks ago.
Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland have done the same. England has done nothing.
It will be interesting in a month to compare cases and deaths.
I agree with that too
In my opinion Boris did nothing because he knew the whole of England would pretty much have stuck two fingers up to any restrictions after what his cronies did last December
Now he has had his Xmas celebrations out of the way and he is armed with all the data either tomorrow or Weds he will take further measures
Just a hunch though
Nothing more
