How Can We Control The Channel?
116 Answers
a motley crew of 5th columnists, assorted lefties and remoaners etc are all moaning that we have failed to stop over 28,000 illegals in 2021. So over you you ladies and gentleman what measures should we have been employing?

I think it needs a multi pronged approach. Firstly the 'plan' shown by TTT would be one part (if the French assist) but then we should back it up with the following: 1) Amend the HR laws to protect the British and remove rigths for illegals. Cheap and easy to do with an 80 seat majority. There will be whining from the left but hey-ho. 2) Remove any right to any cash,...

That isn’t a plan, that is a pie in the sky wish list.
It must be apparent to you by now that France isn’t interested in solving our problems for us - we have to do it ourselves without their cooperation.
This is because France are belligerent, arrogant and anti British, it is because there is nothing in your plan for France. They have just got rid of 28,401 problems, and you expect them to just take them back. Why would they do that ?

Contrast Priti Patel saying we don’t have room for 20,000 Afghans who helped us, we are full.
With the Priti Patel who has just let in 28,400 illegal immigrants (mostly not from Afghanistan) on her watch.
She should resign but won’t. Boris should sack her, but won’t. Nothing will change, so expect similar this year.

TTT; I thought that a troll was someone who seeks to cause friction and bad-feeling between normal posters for his/her own gratification. You seem to fit that description. Your OP is "a motley crew of 5th columnists, assorted lefties and remoaners etc are all moaning that we have failed to stop over 28,000 illegals in 2021. So over you you ladies and gentleman what measures should we have been employing?"
Do you think perhaps that was rather rude and aggressive and aimed only at provoking ill-feeling for your own fun?
I know you have said you wouldn't engage in any discussion of which I was a part, but perhaps others might be interested in hearing your point of view - I won't pursue this with you directly, as I know you don't want to acknowledge me.

Sorry, anneasquith, I don't know how to do links. That wasn't the situation I meant, or if it was, it was very poorly reported.
I was in Scarborough and saw the blue and white tape all over the place and including the car parks and roads immediately surrounding the hotel. They were young men - not children. A neighbour is in the N. Yorks. police and confirmed this. It was played down.

The issue with Patel is not that she has “failed”. Much as I think she’s an appalling individual it is a pretty much unsolvable issue in the short term as the measures proposed or envisaged are with impractical. politically impossible or illegal.
So no HS could succeed. But what she had done is claim that she is capable of sorting it by proposing some measures which are laughable,
The reason people are coming by boat now is because other avenues are not or no longer available. Addressing that is politically unviable.
There is also the myth that most asylum seekers don’t want to remain in France and that is why they cross the channel. This is completely false. France has far more asylum applications than we do. Hardly surprisingly. Being an island we get off lightly.
Also, making it “tougher” once they get here is no solution.
If someone is prepared to pay a lot of money to be carted halfway across the world or to risk a channel crossing in a dinghy then they are hardly going to be off by that.
Knowing they will be “returned” might help, but that’s easy to say.
