Q: "what would you say to The PM and Kier Starmer right now...."
A: " Stop arguing over who drinks when and where and start getting on with the real problems of the day."
Enough said, the public are sick to death of trivial cobras gate!

naomi - // I think the whole thing is an utter nonsense that’s been blown out of all proportion - and for a purpose. //
Blown by whom, and for what purpose?
If it was by Labour, then it has royally backfired on them - whom else do you suggest benefits from this situation.
Your oft stated position that you feel that this is trivial and should be dropped proves that my posts explaining why I believe that rules are important, have completely passed you by.
As I said earlier, we must agree to differ.

naomi - // AH, it wasn’t the ‘as a rule’ that did it. It was the ‘because’ that began your explanation of why tea was acceptable under the rules but wine wasn’t. //
Since you are the thread expert about what is trivial and blown out of proportion, I am sure you can understand the absence of any response to this post.

Is the Scottish government in cahoots with Russians and have cabinet members who own a green card in the USA too? Do they have billionaire spouses with non dom status?
Cataclysmic news indeed.
Brinkmanship when comparing politicians is a very poor version of Top Trumps.

Corby... "I was a Civil Servant and alcohol at Departmental Christmas parties in the office was banned after someone fell out a window.: "
Our office boss didn't ban alcohol after that incident. All the windows were fitted with extra safety devices. A plank of wood was fitted at a height to prevent us getting onto the window sill.
What many people did during lockdown that was against the rules should be punished and then resigned to the past. In the grand scheme of things there is more important things to be dealt with and we can't change what has happened.

The common denominator in the 12 gatherings that the Met police have investigated, is that alcohol was very present at all of them. They claim it was work not play, but they were getting pizzed and any work they did after that should (and might have been) rejected.
I have never had alcohol in my working hours and I wasn’t doing anything vitally important. The fact that they were getting regular sozzled while maintaining they were working for the country, Government, Party, beggars belief. No wonder the party and the Government are in utter shambles, and lurch from one crises to another on a daily basis.

Somebody very close to me died during the pandemic, so close that only eight people were allowed at their funeral and I was one of them. Even the deceased's grandchildren were disallowed from the funeral - this was the regime at the time.
There was no wake allowed at all, therefore definitely no group drinking to this person's memory. After the funeral, everybody simply went back to their respective homes. This was around the time of the drinks parties in Downing Street, when wine was being shipped in in suitcases - it later came to light. If I'd known that at the time, I might have been a bit upset about it.
But now, it's not the parties that bother me. It's the lies about the parties! The boozing is just Downing Street culture, under Boris's [absence of] leadership. The lies and deception, though ... they're beyond the pale.

The mantra currently being trotted from Tory central office (and repeated ad nauseam on here) that everyone is fed up with partygate, and a glass of wine with chums is perfectly acceptable, I wonder whether they will be saying that on Friday morning. The people have their say today, but will Boris’ apologist listen?
