Why Do Other Countries Hate Britain?
Yet again the UK is expected to struggle - if not actually be in last place - in the Eurovision Song Contest, regardless of the quality of our entry. This is apparently representative of a hatred of Britain by other countries. But why? Plenty of people from disadvantaged nations risk their lives to try and get into Britain. I can’t think of a more tolerant place on the planet. Unlike Russia, we are not in the least aggressive or tyrannical. The decision to leave the EU was one we were entitled to make, and other members came do the same if they wish. I could go on. But what in your opinion is behind anti-British feeling?

I've never forgotten the words an elderly Jewish lady whose entire family had perished in the holocaust, said to me. "You are the luckiest person in the world. You're white, you're Christian and you're English", so in answer to the question I guess some of us have it and some of us don't. We're flipping good and always have been. Don’t knock it.
Remember that you are an Englishman, and have consequently won first prize in the lottery of life. - Cecil Rhodes
Tried that on an American leddy
you are an American and feel that you have consequently won first prize in the lottery of life.
Egypt 1978 - darn sarf - by God it was hot Carruthers
she said No!
put her parents as more important than where born.....

It started with the Iraq War, thank to Tony Blair. Then after glasnost, all the separate nations that were part of the USSR all voted for Russia, or their neighbours. This meant that none of Western Europe got a look in. Eurovision have tried changing the rules many times to stop it, but ‘‘twas always so. Cliff lost out to Spain when Germany gave them more votes. Greece gives votes to Cyprus etc.
I watched Eurovision in the 90’s in a Spanish bar. It had a mix of diners. Spanish, French, English, Dutch, Norwegians and Swedes. As the voting started, we said who would vote for whom. We all got it right too! Fantastic evening!

This isn't how the Eurovision Song Contest votes are managed.
Each country votes for its twelve favourite acts. No country gets to 'vote down' any other country.
However, for years it's there's been an underlying political aspect to voting:

There’s only two music powerhouses in the world, us and the Americans, so musically we should be at or near the top each year.
My take on it is that our entrant songs try too hard to be ‘Eurovisionised’ (not a word, but you get my point).
Mind you I could be, and probably am, talking out of my backside because I haven’t watched it since the 90s.
