Can you hear that noise? No, not the boos and jeers this time.
That is the sound of the death knell for the Prime Minister.
Looks like he will be put out of our misery very shortly.

All this before the select committee even begin their grilling over whether he lied to parliament. Far better he falls on his sword now.

Fatti //She already gargling the saline. It’s over, face facts.//
Hope you have the grace to admit you were wrong when Boris survives.

Survives what? He may gain enough votes tonight to survive but everyone knows he’s mortally wounded.
Take a look around, even his own side are using the ‘may win the battle but has lost the war’ analogy.
Why would a former minister tell his colleagues to laud him publicly but assassinate him in a secret ballot?
He’s finished and if more than 100 vote against him tonight it’s over, all the politicians and political commentators know that.
Do yourself a favour and start listening to political commentary in the mainstream media, it’ll give you a sense and an idea of what’s going on.

Lots going on it seems, more from Sky News.

Chancellor says he disagrees with former Treasury colleague's statement on PM
Chancellor.
Rishi Sunak has distanced himself from former financial secretary to the Treasury Jesse Norman's critique of Boris Johnson.
In a damning letter posted to social media this morning, Mr Norman said he can see "no circumstances" in which he could serve a government led by the PM.
He says the Rwanda immigration policy is "ugly", adding Mr Johnson's decision to describe himself as "vindicated" by the Sue Gray report is "grotesque".
If he's "mortally wounded" then so is his party and so is the United Kingdom; and democracy for the citizrns of this nation since few other parties or MPs believe in it.

Recently on Sky News.

'Quiet confidence' among rebels and 'some concern' in Downing Street as voting continues.
Deputy political editor Sam Coates is in Downing Street and he says there are some worrying signs for Boris Johnson.
"Normally you'd expect rebels to play down how well they think they're going to do, but what's interesting is they're not quite doing that," he says in his latest live update.
"There is some concern on the Downing Street side about how they're going to do and quiet… not quite optimism, because I don’t think the rebels think they're going to win, but there is quiet confidence that they might surprise when it comes to the numbers that we discover at 9pm."
One leading rebel has told him they think that while the prime minister will win, it may only be by 30 or 40 votes.

Gulliver may well have been right with his Pickfords post.

I have seen more grotesque statements on AB - this would never have happened unless it were whipped up by the media.
grotesque or what? certainly stupid

'What happens if Boris Johnson hangs on? We don't win election', says Tory MP Sir Roger Gale.
Conservative MP Sir Roger Gale has said that if Boris Johnson managed to cling onto power tonight the party would be "divided" and risked losing the next general election.
Speaking to Sky's Sophy Ridge, Sir Roger, who voted against the prime minister tonight, said an "accumulation of factors" over the course of Boris Johnson's time in power had "strengthened his view" that the country needed another prime minister.
The Conservative MP also said that it was unlikely Mr Johnson would resign if he failed to hit a majority.
Sir Roger said: "He won't resign. Theresa May honourably resigned and Margaret Thatcher honourably resigned because they felt they lost the confidence of the party.
"Mr Johnson will not resign and that's going to place us all in a very tricky position indeed."
The MP went on to say that the danger of Mr Johnson not resigning would be that the party would become "divided".
"We would have a divided party and divided parties don't win elections," he continued.
Sir Roger went on to list a number of politicians who he deemed "all good people" and who could replace the prime minister, including Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt.
"He's not the right person for the job," he added.
"I've heard this argument that 'there is not another person' over and over again. Well, actually we are spoilt for choice.
"There at least half a dozen, perhaps more, who might throw their hats into the ring."

More than 100 against will prove that Johnson has now brought about a fatally divided party.
O_G at 16.06 is correct.
Boris will survive this vote. After that - it is anyone's guess. I have said before on here that if there is one reason why Boris should stay - it is Ukraine. Imaging how some of them feel this evening?

It is all very ugly. I just let 'Woman's Hour' burble in the background usually - full of 'finding yourself etc.' these days - but today there she was, the Presenter, gloating over this vote!
The BBC has shown itself to be really ugly and skewed today. Remember this.

The only one I would trust to replace Boris is Sir David Frost - and he's not a contender. Boris has made a pig's breakfast so far - he can survive by becoming a Conservative and doing what he promised. I.E. Sorting out the Irish Protocol p.d.q. - like tomorrow - ignoring the squeals from the Home Counties and going ahead with 'levelling up' and above all forcing the Civil Service to work for him and us.... or maybe that's equal with getting nasty with NHS management staff. There are lots of others, but it would take too long.

So that's why I won't be upset or surprised if he wins.... but he won't get any more leeway from me or anyone, I suspect.

Jesse is a personal family friend - I've known him well since he was in short pants - he's mad at Boris who inexplicably fired him from the Treasury. I think, & have thought for a long time, that he will one day become a leader of the Tory party, he's certainly more capable than Boris is, or ever could be.
