//Gulliver, They were demanding his resignation long before a fine was issued. Come on now - even you must know that.//
As I’ve pointed out to you, they were going on instinct, following certain character traits of his.
Turns out they were right all along, he is a proven liar and his own removed him for it, which will forever stick in your craw.
That’s the gist of it.

Just for the record, and to reply to ynnaf..., (sorry, I can't leave this page to check your name peoperly, or I'll lose this message) I've never been a Corbyn fan, and I think he was a disaster as Labour leader.
Are there people here who think I am a new incaration of some old AB nutter? I've never had any name but Atheist, since I discovered this site.

Gromit, of course the police said there was no case to answer. The boss is a staunch Labourite.... that's why Starmer could confidently say he'd resign IF a penalty was issued. He knew damn well he was safe. Had he resigned when the abject nonsense of all this first arose, as he consistently badgered Boris to do, I may have had a modicum of respect for him.
As for nepotism:
//the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends//
His mate, the Crime & Police Commissioner is certainly a person with power - and she is certainly his friend.

When the Government set up the elected PCCs they politicised the job of overseeing the police.
In Durham there was a Conservative candidate and a Labour one. The Labour candidate won.
Last year the Home Office mandated the PCCs to hire a Deputy PCC. Public funds were allocated for the 2 day a week post. The PCC in Durham nominated someone she had worked with previously. She was not allowed to give him the job, the police panel voted to appoint him. That procedure was in accordance with Home Office rules.
// Governance solicitor Kamila Coulson-Patel said a formal process was not required by legislation, and the panel recommended the appointment. //
No one seemed much bothered except for a solitary Conservative Councillor who obviously didn’t have a clue about the Home Office rules for selecting a Deputy PCC.

Atheist, call me suspicious - or astute if you like. Had Starmer and his sidekick have set the same criteria for themselves as they demanded of Boris their pious mutterings may have been credible - and moreover, laudable … but as it is they didn’t. What’s that they say about never finding a straight lawyer?
BJ has gone and Starmer has been cleared. Job done.
But…
I’m not being obtuse, I genuinely don’t understand why it was wrong for BJ having an impromptu (uneaten) birthday cake, with no booze drunk, in his office with people he was working with, but SKS having a beer and curry social with people he doesn’t usually work with was ok.
I just find it strange.
I’m not having a go at SKS, because I don’t think what he did was wrong, but I also think BJ did nothing wrong.

//Atheist, call me suspicious//
…..or something else beginning with ‘S’.
Johnson lied, Starmer didn’t.
Starmer offered to resign, Johnson didn’t and wouldn’t.
Johnson was guilty, Starmer was not.
Your hero is no longer creditworthy of the position he held and his party got rid of him for it. It’s obvious you’re still emotional and irrational over it.
Never mind eh?

//Naomi, you seem to see conspiracies. Not everywhere; only when they agree with your unsupported thoughts. We know you've said what you think, but you really ought to explain why you think as you do.//
Nooooo, don’t encourage her! She still believes Starmer to be guilty and Johnson innocent, no matter how many times it’s pored over.
She has a major problem that Starmer is still in post yet sees no problem in the former Foreign Secretary meeting an ex KGB chief alone in Italy, directly after a NATO summit, then conveniently making no official record and forgetting about it when quizzed by a select committee.
This sort of fanatical hero-worship is rarely seen but the last time it was also involved Russians, as they closed in on Berlin, 1945.
