Sorry but nobody needs to take drugs - no sympathy I am afraid. I grew up in the sixties and could easily have got drugs had I wanted to but I didn't feel the need. Now they are blaming it on deprivation - well on our council estate there were plenty of deprived people but I didn't have any friends who became addicts.

Just say no. It’s not rocket science. I have no empathy or sympathy for drug dealers or users. Their choice.
Do drug deaths also include deaths from excess of alcohol and nicotine, or are those acceptable?
All avoidable. Life style choices have consequences.
Considering how much ToraToraTora dislikes the Scots and derides them at every opportunity I’m amazed that he wants to deny them their referendum.

What’s he afraid of? Is he worried it’ll be seen as another sleight on the Tory party who are doing their best to alienate Scots anyway?
More than that, since he believes that Scotland is a total drain on the rUK's precious national resources, why isn't he at the head of every independence march chanting Alba gu Bràth!

Asking for a friend...
Damn!
If only I didn’t do alcohol, and regularly get drunk then I could wade in the all moral and self righteous of you anti-druggies.
As it is, all us pizzheads can ignore all the thousands who die of alcohol every year, and all the misery and death it causes, and join you all in your anti drug crusade.
Obviously we will fail, just as prohibition failed a hundred years ago. But hey, it will be fun, and we can all get rat azed after all the shenanigins. See you all in the pub afterwards ;-)
Most drug deaths are from drugs that have been prescribed for the person by doctors.

"19:21, dougie I have nothing but respect for you, you know that, but your people seem to need drugs me old china!"

No I don't and, supplemental, who are 'my people'?
I seem to have had a surprise promotion.
Its very easy for some to say "just say no"...but not everyone is fortunate enough to have the will power. Combine that with drugs being easily available, the presence of county lines operations with their threats, offers of free drugs in exchange for protection and ability to take over and use the vulnerable...before you know it whole areas are taken over.
Falling into addiction is a bit like walking on a beach where there are patches of quicksand. You seem to be going ok and then suddenly you're up to your neck struggling for survival.
The 'acceptable drugs', alcohol and cigarettes, are far more dangerous to their users than the illegal ones.
not everyone is as lucky as you lankeela

Make all the excuses you like they bring it on themselves. Beso can you give us some proof of your claim?
Yes, they do bring it on themselves...they make poor choices. Who hasn't done that? Are the rest of us suddenly perfect because we've resisted? Are we superior in some way...or lucky that the same combination of choice...or lack of it...was not ours?
Some of the stories I heard when I worked in the drop-in were truly horrifying...there but for fortune.
