" - Not entirely but all things being equal people have a favourite and in this process nothing has come from either camp as a show stopper or a clear clincher, thus people go with their default and at the moment that's Truss.

Depends what you call a show stopper or clear clincher. Their tax and spending policies are markedly different, for example. Surely one is going to be better for the country than the other.
For me, if I was a Tory party member, with little idea which way to vote based on their respective policies and demonstrated leadership capabilities, then a "clear clincher" would be that a majority of Tory MPs voted for one of the candidates. Given that those MPs will be working under the leader I'm voting for, surely the candidate that most of them wanted would be best for my party and country ...
