Do you agree that CEOs should get these huge pay rises and bonuses making the pay gap between them and the staff even wider? I know this happened in the previous years but given the current financial and energy crisis there would be an outcry if figures like this are published.
I've heard this saying so many times lately 'the rich get richer and the poor get poorer'.
The only way to thwart unpalatable circumstances like this impacting on your psyche, is to start a business, make it successful by hard work, attract investment from people who admire your drive, and appoint yourself CEO. Quids in. We can all do that can't we. Or we can stop anybody else doing it if we know we are incapable. It is called jealousy in sociology and Communism in politics.
This thread is about executive pay, togo.
If you start your own business and become a billionaire, I'd say fair play to you.
You'll have enough on your plate anyway. Trying to control executive pay.
JDavis ... you appear to have joined us in July 2012 but have waited 10 years to post any reply. You may therefor have missed my posts explaining that I am the eldest of 13 from a council estate in Stoke. Down the coal mines at 17 and worked all my life ... hard. I know what is fair and what is not. Deceit, and being paid for indolence and idleness is not fair, neither is coaching others to do the same. Alright?
Then get the qualificatoions and become proficient in executive behaviour, demeanour, appearance, and attitude. Easy peasy Spike. Ssip ups and street kebabs not part of the learning process. :))
Not good fatticus but the blame should be layed at the door of them who set the targets and pay/bonus criteria .... if they CEO meets the targets you got to pay the agreed rate rather than renegue
Footballers on £250k a week, that's £13 million a year, basic. If their pay is capped, they'll play elsewhere where it isn't.
Not saying I agree with their pay, I don't, but it's a perfect demonstration of the problem. Society is set up to pay some people far more than they deserve, others far less, and it's very difficult to do anything at all about it ...
//Good for you, Togo, but are you claiming that gives you a unique perspective on what's fair and what isn't?//
Look back at the posts ... It was you who was claiming the rights to judge what was fair. You have yet to learn not to put your own poisoned words into my mouth. You will though.
Oh dear, some on here have no idea of larger businesses.
When you company grows your responsibilities change, same if you go through management. Take for example Jamie Dimon, do you really think because he directs people to do things rather than contact all 270K around the world he should be limited becasue he is only 'managing' half a dozen?. And not only that some seem to think his pay should be based on the lowest, so most likley being a cleaner paid in Rupees.
By the way, it is recommended to have no more than 6 to 8 direct reports.
ellipsis has it spot on with footballers - the same would happen with tope executives as they would all leave the UK to seek out jobs in North America or wherever.....look at what happened when Healey went on record by saying 'if I could, I would tax them at 102p in the pound..... One of Thatch's great achievements when she wasn't demagogic was to slash max income tax and unearned back to 40 percent - it stopped the brain-drain in its tracks.
