He didn't mention 'losing his job'. He was talking about the race for the leadership - a race in which he did not participate. Give it up. You got it wrong so you're making something of nothing as usual.
Oh, the irony.
Which rules were changed half-way through?
//To speed up the competition, the 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers on Monday opted to increase the number of backers that a candidate needed from eight to 20, and ruled that they would need at least 30 votes to get past the first round. //

I wondered that.
Possibly the rule that said: “Boris will always get away with it” :-)

In fact he did achieve stuff and it would be churlish to claim otherwise.
I do wish Liz Truss well in these unusual circumstances. She may well be in Kyiv by the weekend :-)
It’s in all our interests for her not to be a disaster

Such as?

He just spun some stuff.

Miss Shouty sums it up with a touch more realism.

He did get a Brexit deal: admittedly probably one using chicanery, but even I as a staunch remainer can see that it was better than no deal. Which is what I thought we would be landed with.

And the vaccination programme was indeed a triumph, as were the home testing kids which I and many others made fun of when we first heard of it.
And he did indeed forge a frelationship with the president of Ukraine that I suspect was unique. He deserves to be idolised in that country.
There was a lot of bad stuff too, and that is what has caught up with him, of course.
In short, he was great at a lot of the "abnormal stuff" but very bad at the mumdanities. Sadly for him, and all of us, you need to be good at that too.

Home testing kits lol!

The kids was Rees-Mogg's idea until it was pointed out to him that not all houses have chimneys these days.
That change didn't affect him so why was it mentioned?
Ichkeria,
//And he did indeed forge a frelationship with the president of Ukraine that I suspect was unique.//

Unique in that he went there each time he came under pressure at home for lying.
None of the other western leaders felt the need to go with such regularity because they weren’t facing severe scrutiny for misdeeds.
TCL, good luck. Bizarrely, naomi believes that the rules Boris was referring to were the rules that governed how his replacement was to be elected, and the relay race was that replacement election, and nothing will dissuade her from that, not even laying the speech out in front of her. Belief trumps logic, trumps reason, trumps the English language ...
For goodness sake, Ellipsis. Boris wasn't in ANY race. If anything's bizarre it's your attempts to worm your way out of your mistake - which had you thought about it instead of jumping in with two left feet, you might have taken the trouble to ask yourself why he said that. Unless he was talking about the race that occurred after he resigned, there was no reason to mention a race. There was no other race. Get a grip.
"Unique in that he went there each time he came under pressure at home for lying. "

Hardly, or he would have been there a lot more often :-)
Keep digging, naomi! One day, when hell freezes over, you may have a paradigm shift and realise that you were wrong about this after all. On that day, you'll see that everything you're saying about me, in fact applies to you.
You’re wasting your time Ellipsis, she’s detached from reality in the face of undeniable truth, it’s why she won’t respond to any of the facts in this.

Still dodging it, eh Naomi?

Question Author
Boris wasn't in ANY race

yeah that is why the rest of us cant understand the significance of "they changed the rules"

if he WERE in a race then changing the rules cd be a lead up to "I wuz robbed!" - - but he wasnt
so as Naomi might say: the comment/aside was completely irrelevant
Question Author
even the Beeb hack said
he said they changed the rules
but they hadnt

and of course 99% of the country thought - he goes in as he comes out, lying like a good 'un !
Surely all he meant was that it wasn't supposed to be a relay race.

Ellipsis, what you’re saying makes no sense. There’s no logic in it. In your eagerness to stick your knife into Boris yet again this morning you neglected to do your homework and got caught. Never mind. :o)
