Perhaps he went alone to protect his family and children from the predicted, and developing, pecking party that seems to make some restless when they haven't got one to be part in.

1) it's not (yet) obligatory for people to go. I havent been, does that show what i'm like too?
2) "the whole clan" are grown up men, who presumably can choose what they do, and dont have to tag along with daddy anymore, except of course harper who is only 11. people have been advised NOT to take children with them anyway

Realistically Anne, travelling from far afield to London would not be realistic for many, both logistically and physically.
Even my daughter and her partner gave up. They live a 25-30 minute walk from Westminster Hall, but couldn't justify 14+ hours in a queue.
