Based on what? What is your reasoning, figures etc?
We are light years away from the economic state that labour presided over that brought the IMF in when they were last in power.
Tora: Yes we are. But it's about perception. The Tories have been banging on for more than 50 years about Labour having to call in the IMF, trying to show they were not to be trusted with the economy. Now they can no longer do it. All people will remember is 'IMF'.
What are your figures? On what are you basing this? Sounds like you are just making assumptions based on no facts beyond broad headlines. The IMF have moaned about the mini budget that's all, that's a long way from a bail out. They also moaned about Osborne's austerity plan. That's what they do.
It is very rare for the IMF to make an intervention to a G9 country. They must be really concerned about our direction to do so.
It is deeply embarrassing for the Chancellor and Government to be admonished in such a way.
Labour suffered an ignominy of an IMF intervention, and were out of power for 18 years. Not looking good.
How embarrassing, but Mrs Flip-Flop will have to revert to type.
Sunak must be getting his ‘Told You So’ t-shirt printed already, he’ll have it on by the weekend after the BofE steps in too.
What a humiliating climb-down.
Kami-Kwasi must be wishing he’d published those OBR reports after all, instead of keeping them hidden?
I don't know if "flip flop" is any longer relevant - at this rate we may be heading for permanent "spinning Jenny" mode with six fiscal events a week and Sundays left for quiet reflection.
gromit: "Labour suffered an ignominy of an IMF intervention, and were out of power for 18 years. Not looking good." - more 5CP cobras, it's not an intervention. The IMF has no powers to "intervene". They are expressing a concern that's all.

// What's the G9 gromit? we are G7 //
G7 is a political grouping. I was thinking of the G10 which is a group of ten countries with similar economies. I was assuming Russia had been thrown out and they were now 9. But Russia never belonged to the G10. Sorry for the error.
as with the great moderator thread....
it is just another man's opinion
and even in the 70s you kinda believed whom you wished.
In 2012 before I retired, I was warned the great so and so believed different to me. I said " so what he is wrong." and....
it cost them £250 000 - he was wrong to the tune of £250 000. Half a mill if you count the second case...
No dead babies folks, it was a legal case. [you cant change a contract without consent]
HERE it looks as tho it will be a very expensive mistake
and no one remembers Anthony Barber and going for growf, 1972 and the mess he made....
