Taking into account the Charity Worker's name and appearance I consider quite a few people would query where she was from and not intend any offence. The situation, as it has become, would not have arisen if she had just explained politely and not jumped on the woke "'cos I'm different" bandwagon. I am not condoning racism when it occurs but as far as I can see the...

yes
havent we got a thread on this
there is a Meghan effect ( " I was right so there!") that no one wanted and will be ruthlessly exploited
She was a leddy-in-waiting and presumably no one realised that she was a bag carrier and not a hand-shaker. so when she got the chance to gab after a change, she gabbed.
time for the funny farm, where all the other mad old ladies are
( most of them - some are on AB ! - ter daah!)

The Charity Worker in question undoubtedly had an agenda. She claims to be British then doesnt act like one.
The correct way would have been to bring it to the attention of the Duchess who would then undoubtedly retired off the old bird and all would be sorted.
Still I'm sure this Charity worker is happy she has trashed an 83 year olds woman's life. Probably be dead shortly through the 'disgrace' of it.

You could be right. I saw this on the telly last night and the one thing that struck me as odd was that the exchange - which was quite lengthy - was reported word for word. Who can usually recall verbatim the precise words of a lengthy informal conversation?
The "victim" says she is still "trying to process" what happened. It's quite clear - The Lady (as she was referred to in the exchange) has obviously led a very sheltered life and did not appreciate how the demographics of the UK has been irreversibly altered. She thus believes all black people have come from elsewhere.

It's interesting that some are still trying to justify and defend Lady Hussey on the basis of her age.
Can any of those so minded advise exactly what the cut-off point is,we when you are given a carte blanched to ignore such basic courtesies as not presuming that every non-White person you encounter must originate from some outpost of the Empire, and when questioned, are obliged to list their lineage to your satisfaction.

It's a sad indictment on society when even the Prince of Wales feels obliged to make the right noises in order to placate the ever-present ethnic sensibilities. I don't doubt that we all know what the lady meant - non-white people do have their roots elsewhere - but for the precious it's something to make something of and something has indeed been made of it.
