To be honest, I really have no sympathy with chancers who were not in danger and who could afford to pay the scum who charge them. I do have great admiration for those involved with the rescue.

naomi and NJ, of course the 2 tragedies are comparable, 7 deaths (so far) in water in freezing temperatures. Yes, it is a shame on society that humanitarianism at such an awful time can fly by with alacrity and apparent disregard for human life. I have no shame in my earlier post whatsoever. I am as entitled to post my opinion as any other here, which is what I did and I stand by every word I posted. It matters not an iota to me if you disagree.

Thanks to TTT for his link. (The video has now been included in the BBC report.) The story reports a collapsed boat and I wonder if the floor has been breached. I also wonder what is the safeload for such a vessel in terms of the number of people it can safely carry. 43 saved and 4 who perished - 47 passengers seems excessive to me.

Thank goodness for the proximity of the fishing boat and prompt attention from all those who rushed to the scene. People who rescue others in peril in the sea do not worry about nationalities, thank God.

Choux, grown men who made a deliberate and totally unnecessary decision to take to the sea in winter in a small boat and came unstuck does not compare to the tragic deaths of little children playing innocently. I stand by my posts too. I know who I shed more tears for.

I must admit I agree Naomi. There is no comparison. Loss of life is sad, but if we take massive chances we shouldn't expect too much sympathy.
