Jesus wept - who agrees this is absurd?
And why the hell is the Mail referring to somebody with a penis who rapes women as 'her'?
In his most recent Netflix special, Ricky Gervais had a routine about this very scenario, which was hilarious because it was so absurd. Paraphrasing "He raped me", "you mean she raped you", "but he had a penis", "she had a penis you effing bigot". But clearly it wasn't that absurd after all!

I know what AB is like on this, or at least I know what the views are of several of the people who I've talked to since posting. Naomi for example can attest that we've talked about it, and at length, multiple times over the years, without ever seeing eye to eye on this subject.
That doesn't mean that I don't mind it, but it does mean that I knew what to expect. It would be nice to think that, being open and transparent about it (and I'm not hiding my previous identity on this site, even if I'm not being explicit about it), will have some effect on future conversations, with at least some people. Or possibly not. But in any case, as much as I appreciate the support, I can step in or not at my choosing -- I've reached the understanding within myself needed that the opinions of people I'll never meet won't shape me.
Actually, constantly telling me that I'm pretending to be something is probably counterproductive, if they were hoping to persuade me to "give up" on this "fantasy". But, in fairness, I don't think Naomi for example has ever meant to discourage me from being myself, per se, even if she disagrees on what I mean by that.

//‘ I'm finding it very difficult to distinguish between 'views challenged' and 'personal attacks' ‘//
//If it means making a fool of myself to rid the thread of one person being targeted on a personal level, then so be it!!//
Then you should understand that if contributors bring their personal circumstances to the debate they then form part of that debate. It’s rather unjust to do that and expect no further mention of it. But that seems to be the nature of many transgender debates.
//I feel it my civil duty to point out what looks like bullying.//
It looks more like robust debate to me. You know what they say about the heat in the kitchen.
//if they were hoping to persuade me to "give up" on this "fantasy".//
I don’t think anybody is trying to do that from what I’ve seen. I’m certainly not. They’re simply suggesting that you accept that’s what it is. There’s nothing wrong with it – we must all do what we like provided it harms nobody else. But to suggest a man is a woman simply because he says so is just that.

Well, you've asked, and I've answered :)
Also, if it were merely my saying so and everybody disagreeing with me (and if this were true in general), then maybe you'd have a point. But, as I've made clear multiple times, this simply isn't the case. Most people -- and, in particular, virtually all the women -- are accepting, and enthusiastically so at that.
Generally speaking, history has shown society move towards being more understanding, and more accepting, of the diversity of human experience, rather than less. We'll get there in the end; and by that point people will wonder what the fuss was about.

You’re quite right, Clare, I wouldn’t discourage anyone from being who they are - but I do object to the demands of the gay/trans community that the rest of us behave in a manner of their choosing, ie by opening up women only spaces to men or conceding to the wishes of men who insist upon on being referred as ‘she’ or ‘her’. The first totally ignores the well-being of real women and girls, the second is a lie and, as such, it’s not something I’m willing to indulge.
