after serving 8 of his 16 year sentence - do you think he could resurrect his music career? I still enjoy his records and would probably go to a gig if he did one locally. Or do you think he should be permanently outcast?
anneasquith. in my opinion when a large group of people get chatting about a huge variety of topics, as happens here, 'Rules' can't possibly cover every eventuality so situations often have to be assessed individually and common sense decisions applied. Therefore, I regard mods as a bunch of Frank Sinatras really - me included - with each doing it, to a degree, his/her own way.
I could be wrong but, surely in the case of moderation the mods should at least be following the same rules ? But, if you wish ‘to do it my way’ . Carry on .
I’m not sure you read Naomi’s post correctly there, Anne. There are circumstances where rules don’t strictly apply. There are other circumstances where moderation baffles me but….
Ok, I'm sorry, but I'm closing this thread now. I asked politely for it to return to the topic, but everyone seems determined not to bother with that. The Eds will see my report in the morning & if they consider it worth re-opening then, it will be.
Could you explain why a thread which has caused so much acrimony and appears to be exactly the sort which drags Answerbank down, has been reopened? Everything that could possibly be said about the original subject has been (several times).
Sorry, but I just don’t ‘get’ the logic of Answerbank trying to move forward and the reopening of such threads.
This is a topic which people can discuss on The AnswerBank. The thread was closed because it went a bit haywire. It's now open again after a cooling-off period.
The thread might come to a full stop or it may not …. but an open thread offers the opportunity at least to continue the discussion whereas a closed one doesn't.
No he should not resurrect his music career, the royalties which I heard on TV is approx £2000 a month should be donated to victims families and he should be tagged for his remaining days.
I stopped following this “discussion” some while back when it became a predictable slanging match.
I had a brief back check to see when was the last time anyone posted anything to do with the topic - and gave up!
What I’m not happy with us when threads get closed without any explanation. In this case IMO it was a timely and polite calling of time!
Still, I don’t want to be a killjoy … :-)
the Rolling Stones can get away with playing gigs in their 80s and Kate Bush will probably do so in due course but I don't see nostalgists flocking to Glitter revival gigs even if he tried it: most of the audience would be lynch mobs.
RH, I'm not sure convicted paedophiles are allowed to emigrate. Who would want them anyway? I read somewhere of a proposal to stamp sex offenders' passports with a warning... but I don't know how true that is.
At least the Mods work hard on keeping the Abersphere clear of spam. If the Techies worked half as hard on correcting bugs and introducing new (much-requested) features, then that would also improve the site.
