Ok the shooting of the teen started this but it's now turned into general anarchy. Cleatly criminals are using it as an excuse to go looting etc but is there an underlying cause? Discontent seems to have been bubbling under the surface. So what is the problem? Why are people so unhappy? Anyone have more insight?

Immigration laden France burns and erupts into violent anarchy whilst immigrant controlled Poland lives peacefully through all the criticism of its policy. No word from Brussels where the incumbents are likely rather pleased to see Paris burn as they divvy out the spoils of the ponzi scheme. Meanwhile Micron blames computer games on the violence whilst partying and dancing to Elton John ditties. Did he eat cake? Tell me again who said “As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see ‘the River Tiber foaming with much blood,”.

Enoch Powell was a professor of Classics at age 26.
and he kinda missed out ( odd for a professor - wars, awful wars,
The north africans are a left over from the 1958 Algerian war - not boat people
The French police of which there are thousands of kinds, arent *** ( arrest of the immigrant with the extensible truncheon up his hoo-hoo) but seem not to cope with other people having cameras.

//Obviously Spungle you appear not to understand or appreciate that many/most of the young people who are rioting are French-born natives, not the result of recent immigration.//
Most of the Looting and rioting in London over recent years was perpetrated by young English born natives who are 3rd or 4th generation immigrants as well as the French young people are of Algerian parentage

Bobbisox. My friend lives in-between Limoges and Angouleme, a bit nearer Angouleme. I've heard from her and she ways it still quiet around them. It is very rural there, we lived in between Limoges and Poitiers and know all 3 cities.
She does add that they are no-longer going into Angouleme to shop (it was a lovely place, but run down in the banlieus) because 2 weeks ago some police shot and killed two young black men who also refused to stop and be searched.
It seems that since I last went there there has been an explosion of drug-trading etc. and the police are stopping young black men and asking them about the (expensive) cars they are driving and wanting papers. I should add that they do this anyway, I was stopped twice whilst I lived there, but the place is now like a tinder-box. She's heard nothing about Limoges.
If your daughter steers clear of the questionable areas to be found in any city, she should be OK. Distances between small towns and villages are big and it is very, very rural.

I doan think it is the pieds noirs are the ones rioting
the pieds-noirs are people of French and other European descent who were born in Algeria during the period of French rule from 1830 to 1962.
Beur (pronounced [bœʁ]), or alternatively Rebeu, is a colloquial term, sometimes considered pejorative, in French to designate European-born people whose parents or grandparents are immigrants from the Maghreb.[1] The equivalent term for a female beur is a beurette.

‘ I would, wouldn't you?’
Maybe not if I were a black person in a suburb of Paris where immigrants make up around a quarter of the population, driving a flash, apparently hired car. You also have to take into account the Paris polices’ record in dealing with immigrants when trying to understand the youth’s actions.
Understand, I’m not condoning the policeman’s actions which were completely disproportionate.

TTT, I would just like to say that I appreciate the style and wording of your OP and find it suitable to promote a decent discussion, well done.
I am always saddened to read of any death that happens in the aftermath especially of a fire-fighter as in this case. We don't appear to have such a wonderful control over who some of our police are and it may well be the same for the French. Thankfully our police are not all armed.
When we had the England Riots in 2011 there was much looting. I am not convinced that there is such a huge difference between the way in which the English and French react to perceived problems with the police. The deaths of 2 youths on an e-bike caused a riot in Ely, albeit on a lesser scale.
Whenever riots occur I do wonder who is orchestrating them and if their ultimate aim is the downfall of governments.
