Made by Enoch Powell ,very controversial for its time but a lot of it is happening with no controlled immigration nor any government in power or opposition ,willing to tackle it ,it’s seen as a poison chalice

‘He specifically refers to Afro-Caribbean and West Indian immigrants’

Completely incorrect. There is no specific reference to either peoples in his speech.

That fact that you’ve previously complained about Naomi adding in adjectives beggars belief. It’s one of your very own traits/faults which I’ve specifically suggested you stop doing. A completely pot/kettle scenario.
Saying ‘the prophecy was wrong’ assumes that the country will, in future, remain as it is now, which of course it won’t because time doesn’t stop. We have watched the country change and it will continue to change - and if anyone hasn’t noticed it changing they need to look harder.
Zacs - Where do you think 'picaninnies' come from?
Naomi - No-one would argue that the country has, and will change.

The simple factbis, Mr Powell referenced a specific ethnicity in his speech, and history has proved him to be incorrect.

I cannot understand why you are so determined not to accept that very simple fact, and will use any and every means to try and argue against it.
People here have explained the ethnicity issue to you. It's not rocket science.
I thought you were 'moving on ...'?
chrissakes you two, move on
none of these rate as "deep thoughts"

( more of the usual Naomi-Andie ya-ya
and dont get any more out - - ( thx to Mick J)
^another one who either hasn’t read the posts or hasn’t understood what’s been said.
andy-hughes: The difference between your assertions & naomi's is that she has read the text of the speech & assimilated it.
Khandro - I have also read the speech and assimilated it, it is simply that my conclusions differ from hers, and yours.
Prejudice is a great time saver, you can form opinions without having to study the facts.
'Zacs - Where do you think 'picaninnies' come from?'

Andy, I haven't mentioned 'piccanninis'.

You said he'd specifically referred to Afro-Caribbean and West Indian immigrants which he didn't. You may have extrapolated that he was referencing them through the use of the word piccanninis but the words 'Afro-Caribbean' and 'West Indian' aren't used. To refer to anything specifically the actual words have to be used.
Zacs - Mr Powell was clearly referring to Afro-Caribbean and West Indian migrants.

They were the only significant numbers of migrants at the time, so clearly Mr Powell thought it unnecessary to actually name them specifically.

Mr Powell knew to whom he was referring, as do I, and if you are so convinced of the rightness of his point then so should you.
My observation is that the black man has the upper hand is clearly demonstrated in tv adverts and tv soaps.
And in Emmerdale they have each clearly demonstrated they are no Idris Elba.
Anyone who's actually read the speech will know that Mr Powell quoted several other people and some of the words being attributed to him here were not actually his. Furthermore he did mention Sikhs.
Powell put a time on when the black man would have the upper hand - 15 years after 1968. We are now many years after that, and it has not happened.
I don’t recall him saying that exactly, gromit, although he did give some projections of possible numbers in years to come.
SparklyKid, I cannot answer on the soaps reference because I watch none, but adverts are an interesting category. I think ads should reflect as accurately as possible the number of people who are black or of colour living in this country. Then again, I have seen the recent ad for the Open University which, imo, seems disproportionate. I suppose it all depends on where we as individuals live.
And actually he didn’t say the black man would have the upper hand. He was quoting from a letter from a constituent.
