Suspected Drug Dealer Cannot Be Extradited To The Uk Because Of Poor Conditions In Uk Jails

Germany refused to extradite a suspected Albanian drug dealer to the UK because the UK would not give guarantees about the conditions he would be held (imprisoned), with his legal representative citing the poor conditions in UK jails (overcrowding, staff shortages, violence, poor ventilation etc).

Having left the EU due to Brexit, there is no longer the European Arrest Warrant system in place, which would have led to his automatic return (another Brexit benefit). With the UK’s poor prison conditions, we can expect to see more successful appeals based on this reason.

Apparently after the court ruling, the suspect was freed and can no longer be sought by the UK authorities while he is in Germany.

I have not seen the rabid Daily Mail/Express running this story, being outraged that foreign courts are demanding humane conditions in our jails.

so germany would have been happy for him to be held in poor condition in UK when we were in EU but now arent.
That says a lot about EU logic.
Well if there happy for him to roam free in Germany sounds like there cutting there noses off to spite there face

Not going to fix the problem by housing our prisoners in humane conditions, then?
Or to look at it another way….
Brexit has saved us £thousands in not housing a foreign criminal.

We could save even more money by releasing all the foreigners in our prison population.
great, let them keep the low life scum.
If the EUSSR think our jails are a bit rough then that's another compliment.
Clearly it's yet another example of the EU finding excuses to be awkward to the UK, even when it's a case of cutting off their own nose in order to spite their face. The evidence mounts up and soon even their most ardent supporters will be obliged to admit it is so.
OG: "Clearly it's yet another example of the EU finding excuses to be awkward to the UK, even when it's a case of cutting off their own nose in order to spite their face."

Anyway if the Germans want to save us the money of looking after low life criminal scum and have them walking the streets of the EUSSR then great.

This story is nothing to do with the EU, Germany decided not to extradite an individual to the UK because we would not give them assurances concerning the conditions he would be held (imprisoned).

According to the narrator, if the UK had bothered to respond to the German court with details that would have satisfied them, re his imprisonment in the UK – then they would have been happy to extradite him.

So the reality of the story is incompetence on behalf of the UK authorities (and poor conditions in UK jails in general).
A win win result for the UK. Since when are our Gaols supposed to rival the Ramada Hotel?
Germany was a major influential part of the EU, last I checked.

And Germany may not need to look after them as, as far as I understand it they let him go ? (Maybe they hope he'll find his way to the beaches in northern France.)
Surprising ... the mentality that it's better for criminals to run away to foreign climes than be dealt with by our justice system.
Julian Assange seems to be happy with his "detention" in a UK prison. He is fighting tooth and nail to stay here. Supported of course by the very types who are unhappy with conditions for a drug dealing gangster. Bless.
All of a sudden Hymie has morphed into a latter day Elizabeth Fry. Any excuse to bang in some anti Brexit rhetoric eh Hymie.?
Sounds a win for the UK all round to me.
// this story is nothing to do with the EU//

Well your the one that said ' having left the Eu due to Brexit'
If this is nothing to do which the EU, then why did you write ‘ Having left the EU due to Brexit, there is no longer the European Arrest Warrant system in place, which would have led to his automatic return’?

I am not surprised Hymie. It is just another case of British incompetence, and actually we should not be surprised because some people in authority have not got anything between their ears.
