Should These Dogs Be Banned?

How often do you see chavs with a lab, retriever, cockapoo, springer etc...? I'll answer for you - you don't.

How often do you see chavs with staffs and other terrier type dogs like the Bully? If a chav has a dog, they have one of these types of dog.

Yes, ban them. They are not the type of dogs to have as a loving pet.

I came across the fact that labs are dangerous many years ago. The explanation given was that they are so docile that people abuse them eg, let children climb all over them; they give the child a warning nip which is classed as a bite, unfairly I think. We had a rough collie many years ago; the most docile creature you can imagine - it even tolerated our budgie nibbling its toes and nose. On one occasion our daughter accidentally trod on its tail - it threw its head back and caught one of her fingers with a tooth. Our friend recollects the day our dog bit our daughter; recollections differ.

Not one person has been killed by a Labrador in the UK during the last 20 years. Currently, over 60000 dogs of this breed are registered, probably many more that aren't registered.

I wonder how many Bully XLs are in the UK? I think it is a far smaller number yet they have been responsible for 18 deaths in the past two years.

They should be banned, which could mean breeding stops and the requirement for lead and muzzle in all public places.

I call them drug dealers dogs. I`m seeing more and more of them and it's always a certain type of bloke that has them. I haven't seen one yet that has been neutered either - they obviously want to keep them as aggressive as possible and for a reason.

I suspect they are like many other breeds, it's not so much the dog but the owner. During lockdown many people bought dogs for company without any thought as to how 'qualified' they were to look after them. One of the most dangerous dogs I came across was a jack russell terrier who hated everyone, including her owner, and nearly bit his nose off. These bully tupe breeds are seen as status symbols by some, or guard dogs. They aren't really looked on as pets. Anyone who gets a dog should be vetted (!) to see if they are up to training and caring for it.

Why arent all dangerous dog breed banned?

Bully XL and similar are big money dogs specifically bred for the type of person that wants an intimidating dog in the belief it enhances their own status.
The breeders are only interested in the money and some trainers make very big money if they over develop the dog’s muscles and levels of aggression. It’s a horrible business.
Ban the Bully XL and they will breed one just as powerful and aggressive with slightly different DNA and physical characteristics.

The law needs a radical overhaul concerning dog breeding but I don’t know how it could be implemented or enforced.

I have insufficient experience to judge, but I think one needs to ascertain whether the breed itself is notably dangerous, or whether it is one or a few untrained or uncontrolled dog(s).
