Just asking like, but i seem to get the feeling that the death of an English pop singer(McGowan) seems more worthy of respect than the death of a world statesman(Kissinger).Any views either ways folks?

Born in England

Went to school in England

Lived most of his life in England

Made most of his music in England

But he is as Irish as Guinness...apparently.

Dean Sullivan who played Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside has also died.

Perhaps he is worthy of respect for playing that part for so long?

Well, why not?

You're the one who is making a totally idiotic non-comparison. And continuing your daft windup about MacGowan being English.

a degree of naivety or lack of knowledge on the Mod's part - there's a learning lesson in there.....

Question Author

Shh,Roy.....the mods are watching you.

YNNAFYMMI, it's odd that you keep referring to the pop singer as, "English" yet the nationality of the politician is apparently not relevant.

It's almost as if there is an agenda you're pursuing...

I also had a look for your contributions on the Kissinger thread.

I was expecting to see fulsome reports from you, detailing all his achievements but I seen only two posts from you, neither of which was about the man himself.

Again, it's almost as if there is an agenda you're pursuing...

Question Author

@21.09.So where was McGowan born Ichy?

Question Author

@21.10.Got it in one,Englishman.

You can certainly make a case for MacGowan by birth being English - he'd have bee  qualified to play for England :-)

His ethnicity was certainly Irish (as is mine for instance)

The daft bit is your constant banging on about it.

Yes Sandy(@21.01) and that is where we came in with Kissinger. (^_*)

Question Author

"constant banging on about it"..so are you denying he was born in England,Ichy?

No comment apart from 'topsy-turvey' sot of otherworld seems to be operating.  Carry on.

Ok let's leave that as you plainly didn't read what I said

In what respect do you think that one death "takes precedence" over the other?

And where would yuu rank poor old Alistair Darling's death in your death hierarchy?

Question Author

Whoa...whoa,Ichy.Im still holding you to account for your posting at 21.09.Dont shy away from your posting.

So you aren't going to attempt to answer your own question: why does the "English" SM have precedence over the "no ethnicity or nationality specified" HK or indeed what you even mean?

Because your question  is just trolling

If you are that upset about the focus upon English-born  MacGowan rather than the German-born Kissinger, how are you not enlightening us all about the achievements of Kissinger?

Question Author

It was you who said McGowan wasnt English.I was right, you was wrong.I await your apology Ichy. And make it the most profusest apology youve ever done in your life.

Stop it with this MacGowan was Irish nonsense.

Quite clearly, the accurate way to describe MacGowan, given where he was born and his upbringing, was middle-class English.

From Wiki

"MacGowan was born on 25 December 1957 in Pembury, Kent, England, the son of Irish immigrants. His father was from Dublin and his mother was from Tipperary. His mother, Therese, worked as a typist at a convent and had previously been a singer, traditional Irish dancer, and model. His father, Maurice, came from a middle-class background and worked in the offices of department store C&A; he was, in his own words, a "local roustabout". MacGowan's younger sister, Siobhan MacGowan, became a journalist, writer, and songwriter. He was born in England, but raised in Tipperary in Ireland until the age of 6. MacGowan lived in many parts of southeast England such as Brighton, London, and the home counties, and attended an English public school. In 1971, he left Holmewood House preparatory school in Langton Green, Kent, with a scholarship for Westminster School."

As an antidote to all this nonsense an amusing story about Kissinger: his brother asked him why he spoke with a German accent still and he replied; "because I'm the Kissinger who listens to people" 😀

Some people are more into great Irish/English music than American/German politicians. I know I am. I'm also a little bit sad about Alistair Darling.
