Shane Mcgowan-Henry Kissinger
Just asking like, but i seem to get the feeling that the death of an English pop singer(McGowan) seems more worthy of respect than the death of a world statesman(Kissinger).Any views either ways folks?

Funny old World. All those knife nutters who were born in UK despite having parents from all sorts of places are automatically British or better still English. If anyone dare call them Pakistani, or Albanian, or Nigerian, or West Indian there are howls of protest along he lines that they were born here so it is no contest. However if ... I bet you could fill the rest is yourselves!
1st item on this evening's news was this singer. I don't particularly like the Pogues, but he is important to some (obviously) so that's not a problem.
What is a problem is that others of far more influence on everyone's lives, i.e. Kissinger and Darling, are relegated.
Horrible proof that Brave New World is in operation in the UK methinks.
I did not remove your posts just because you said that Shane MacGowan was English - the posts were removed because you were trying to start a fight by pushing your own agenda on an otherwise harmless RiP thread.
By all means rant away here to your hearts content - but any more personal jibes like the one at sandyRoe at 20:40 will be dealt with as appropriate.
That was one of the reasons why I avoided the thread Fanny. McGowan was certainly more relevant in my day to day life. I have brothers who were real punk rock stock and sometimes had to go along for the ride. The Pogues were in their playlists and I still remember the bar ringing out with Fairytale at Christmas in 1987. I am sorry for his wife and children. It happens. The band was originally called Pogue Mahones( póg mo thóin) but had to change their name after a threat of civil action from a group of Scottish Gaelic speakers and pressure from the BBC. They are now hailing McGowan as a folk hero of course.
