What a joke, rewarding her cronies for driving the economy into a wall. Now this really is taking the hiss big time.

Politics in this country is a bloomin farce highlighted by this dishing out of honours by losers to losers. Trouble is the people are too timid/scared/preoccupied to give substantial support to anyone who wants to change things (hopefully for the better!).Republic/UKIP/Reform-UK. Come the revolution....

A small price to pay if it's the end of any dealings with this moron.

If anyone was having problems who to vote for in the next GE, she's just put another nail in Sunaks coffin.

The simple fact is, outgoing PM's are able to provide an Honours List.

That provisin is not based on either the ability of the outgoing PM, or the length of time they served - if it was, any of the PM's in the last fifty years would be exempt.

That means Ms Truss gets her List, and since she was not around long enough to actually do anything, she is entirely limited to rewarding the people who were politically and morally bankrupt enough to shoe-horn her into the position for a few days.

It's the system - live with it.

With respect  AH I already know how it works, but thats not really my point. Live with it? At the moment I don't have a choice, maybe it will change, it should because its wide open for abuse. Lizzie's list is abuse of this system.

nicebloke - // At the moment I don't have a choice, maybe it will change, it should because its wide open for abuse. Lizzie's list is abuse of this system. //

But the entire system is formed and exists on abuse.

It's about 'reward' - but that is a moveable feast, especially when politicians are involved.

Every year the media howls in disgust about how cronies and failures get gongs and peerages, and every year it happens again.

The main problem is, as with so many other positions of power - in order to be in any position to change something, you have to have soundly proved beyond doubt that you entirely support it as it is.

That's why this nonsense will happen this year, next, and on into the distant future.

It's a system built to reward the people who create and maintain it, the 'great and the good', although increasingly, as we agree, recipients are not within a country mile of being either.

FWIW I also find this embarrassing but as AH says they are the rules and sometimes the rules can seem wrong. We can't have variable application of a standard rule.

TTT - // We can't have variable application of a standard rule. //

Absolutely.

How can any MP shout about banning Ms Truss's List simply because they don;t agree with it, or with her making it, when the same argument can be levelled at their guy when it's his turn to do the same?

The rule that let Blair and Johnson reward cronies applies to Ms Truss just as much, and people involved, which is any and all MP's, should shut up and suck up.

"We can't have variable application of a standard rule."

Oh really? At its most basic take speeding, 30mph is the limit but some allow +3mph +10%.

It's the same all over, until 'someone' decides it's not.

Rules are there for us little people.

Have a day off dougie! Invalid analogy. Those above seem to want to be the judges on whether a former PM choices meet with their approval, or perhaps the PM ship meets with their approval. To use your analogy it would be like saying the speed limit is 30 but only if you think the road warrants it.

Whatever you say, Tora, whatever you say. x

I may be wrong, so correct me if I am. The honors list that the media howl about year after year don't nomally bother me or who gets what, but this list by Truss tends to stick out like a sore thumb, they could be blocked if Sunak requested such, I believe that request is made to the King?? Maybe its time after years of howls a sitting PM for once has the halls to take the maybe correct action.

So you want to block this one because you noticed it and don't like the choices. Right oh!

Tora ❤ Liz.

Have to agree with Mr Nicebloke @ 10.55. Loopy Liz Has almost put the final nail in Sunak and the Tories chance of winning the GE  .Get ready to launch the life boats .The Tory Titanic is sinking fast......And it's to late to rearrange the deck chairs......

2022 Boris Johnson (Gazette issue 64120)"

No resignation honours from Tony Blair or Gordon Brown.

You wonder why the agreement of Truss's list took ten times longer than her prime ministership ...

12.20 .Bloody heck Corby ..You would need a long gravy train to finance that lot.

Peerages are for life, not just for Christmas ...

(or even elections).

> FWIW I also find this embarrassing but as AH says they are the rules and sometimes the rules can seem wrong

Still, nice to know that "we" have taken back control and can change those rules ...

It appears Tony Blair and Gordon Brown ignored those resignation "rules".

TTT 12.06. Sunak was howling INTEGRITY INTEGRITY when he first walked into number 10. I've not seen any so far, but he does have a golden opportunity NOW, by blocking this hiss take.
