the US has bombed 85 targets in Iraq and Syria linked to Iranian proxies in retaliation after Iranian militias killed 3 US soldiers in Jordan...

President Biden said "if you harm an American we will respond"...

was this the right thing to do or will it only get worse?

Warning of disasterous consequences? Putin said the same if there was any interference with his special opperation from the West, still waiting? The so called disaster works both ways, and both sides know that. Bullies do a lot of gobbing when they run out of choices.

It has to be done.

Ignoring or appeasing aggression never ever works. It's simply seen as weakness.

It may not stop it, but doing nothing definitely wouldn't.

radio 4 iranian - telling it like  it is ( 0830) - given full throat by the Beeb producers+

and I fort - the american - "we gonna ! we gonna! and by golly it  gonna be bad!" was really an agreement with the Iranians that they would punish the do-ers and not the controllers ( Iranians)

so that the rocketmen DDDDIIIIIIEEEEE and the controllers ( difft religion shia rather than sunni -  difft language Farsi no realtion at all to Atabic, and have dominsted the arab lands for more than 3500 y ) go on controlling

Doing nothing definitely wouldn't? Its been proven too Putin many times over by Ukraine and the West that we will never be a walkover, and if we have to prove it to other countries then so be it.

o god that is not too rich is it - you have to know Iranians speak Farsi and so on ?

the West  will never be a walkover,

oh dear Putin walked into Crimea 2014,

AND walked into Kherson for example in 2023 - [The mayor said to  Russians - "Oh come in, wd you like me to run the  city for you?" and tovarich said " no  we want you to get in this car with black windows and go to Gulag. They are waiting"

thos who dont study history are condemend to repeat it

I wd change to

those who dont study history ar eall on AB !  haw haw haw

"B1 Bombers. Known as Rockwell B1 Lancers."

Thanks Togo.

Don't know too much about this modern stuff. I think the B1s were only rolled out in the 1980s.  😀

PP you will need to bare with me, looking for the key to wind up my bombe. :0(

Well, Pete, if arab nations want free of their Farsi speaking controllers then they should have the power to do so. It's not like the Farsi speaking controllers are great allies with many.

Crimea part of the west ? Debatable. They are more in the middle. Maybe if you count all nations who consider themselves European. It'd be far east, west, if it is.

Oggy

Crimea part of the west ? Debatable.

they walked into Crimea - no resistance - or is one's point that Crimea was walked into but it is nt west ?

The East is a far faraway country about which we know  nothing....Did I just brilliantly coin a phrase or recucle history?

Italy as Near East - yeah OK

Al-qaeda in Afghanistan attack US on 9/11. The US bombs Iraq.

Houtis in Yemen attack US assets. The US bombs Iraq.

At least they are consistant.

J-R 'At least they are consistent.'

Perhaps the US has evidence that Iran is embroiled in the other countries - probably through extremist religious groupings?  Just a thought.

How far is Iraq from the Red Sea?
If Houtis are flying Drones into merchant shipping, it is unlikely they are doing it out of Iraq. So the 85 targets are not to end the Drone attacks, but an excuse to disrupt Iranian assets across the wider middle east.

houthis are flying them from Bab ab-dab ( or something) LH corner of the saudi peninsular.

Question Author

the strikes were not in retaliation for the red sea attacks... they were in response to a drone attack on a US base in jordan

Question Author

i read on the guardian earlier that the USA is pressuring israel to accept normalisation of relations with saudi arabia and make concessions to palestinian statehood or else they will withdraw support for netanyahu... the idea being that without portraying themselves as the protector of the palestinians then iran will have much less influence.

i don't know if it is true and i suspect there is much being left out but i really hope that it is. sounds like a far better plan for stabilizing than anything else i have heard so far!!!

High risk, choosing to deter the Jewish vote.

I doubt Israel will consider it that likely, after all the US wouldn't want to withdraw support and see Iran take over everywhere there.

Question Author

i mean withdrawing support from netanyahu personally rather than israel itself
