Surely this is a massive retrograde step. Bound to create loads more hard drug addicts. Madness.

God help Germany. A generation of potheads in the making.

The proponents of cannabis claim it's not a gateway drug and is less harmful than alcohol.

Time will tell.

Their reason? Appears to be to kill off the black market.

No it won't, it will increase the black market for stronger drugs. How come they don't see this.?But then again could I be wrong?

They're just acknowledging reality.

The real gateway drug is bound to be caffeine. Then it's on to the hard stuff like beer. No stopping it then.

A bold move well worth the try IMHO.  There is little evidence of cannabis leading to harder drugs, so it will be interesting to see what happens - will the naysayers be proved right (which will make a change) or will common sense prevail.

RCL was associated with increased rates of cannabis-related hospitalizations. RCL and/or RCC was associated with increased rates of cannabis-related ED visits, consistently shown across sex and age groups. The effect on fatal motor vehicle incidents was mixed, with observed increases found after RCL and/or RCC. The effect of RCL or RCC on opioids, alcohol, intentional injury, and mental health is not clear. These results inform population health initiatives and international jurisdictions considering RCL implementation.

Cannabis legalization in North America appears to have increased daily cannabis use, especially potent cannabis products and particularly among young adults. Associated increases in people with psychiatric disorders, suicides and hospitalizations have also been reported.

And so on ...

canary: "There is little evidence of cannabis leading to harder drugs" - rubbish, find me a hard drugs junkie that didn't start on cannabis.

I dunno Tora, reckon you could do with a smoke. Might help you with the stress of being upset about everything you read in the news.

At least we.won't have to worry about Germany starting any more wars. They'll be too busy looking for a something to munch on. Perhaps we can get Putin stoned?

Tora 13:05

In that case, should cigarettes also be banned, as I've never met a stoner who didn't start on cigs first.

14:25, are they not doing this rolling minimum age thing soon? I did know a guy once that said he actually started smoking in order to smoke dope but yes, dope heads all started on cigs. You'll get no objection from me. Ban that cloud generation nonsense while you are at it.

I know some people who have never smoked but enjoy edibles.

I would try edible cannabis for pain relief if it was legal (I don't want to smoke). I don't think it would get me hooked on harder drugs & if buying from a legal source you are less likely to meet pushers of illegal drugs.

The cannabis you buy from Boots and supermarkets has the agent that relieves pain in some people, davebro.

I don't know if it really works but I do know some people swear by it

At approx 14.25 i did a comedic posting about Hitlers drug use(well known)and Putins drug usage(reputedly). Why was my posting removed mods.

CBD gummies a bit pricey at £35 for 30 capsules. I'm sure legalised weed would be more affordable & possibly "grow your own.

Ynnafymmi, this thread is about the limited legalisation of cannabis in Germany and the hobby-horses you shoehorned into the discussion weren't relevant.

well there is free speech for you! - I can see that hitler's drug use ( Dr Morrell and all that) MIGHT have a bearing on the German psyche and degree of tolerance for various droogs.

Morphine lozenges I recall

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodor_Morell

well-known in Germany for unconventional ( but  obvioously tolerated) treatments.
