Ok it's about Catholic adoption agencies primarily but what has horrified me is that Gay couples are considered as suitable to adopt full stop. Now before you start jumping up and down, "homophobia" yada yada etc. This is not an anti gay rant but one of conncern for the adopted children. Surely they will go through a life of merciless ribbing at best and brutal bullying at worst. Kids are totally cruel. Should children be put through this on the altar of trendy PC policies? What sort of screwed up mental state would the victims of this policy be in by the time they reach adulthood?

I don't think it's as cut and dried as that...

I was half listening to a discussion on Radio Four yesterday and from what I heard, I believe this is how it goes:

The Catholic Church accepts state funding for it's adoption agencies. Because this is state money, there are certain rules/constraints they must follow...the latest being that the state will not accept discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

However, the Catholic adoption agencies can still operate as a private concern, exercising it's discrimatory policies, but without state funding.

The Catholic Church has responded saying it would have to close it's adoption agencies without state funding.

This is what I believe the core issue is...however, I'm willing to be corrected...like I say, I was only half listening.
Oh, fair enough - I didn't realise they received state funding.
So is getting bullied because your parents are gay worse than getting bullied because you are too fat, wear glasses, have the wrong bag, your familty are poor, you have ginger hair? Maybe we should keep all these fat, ginger, spectacle wearing children at home to shield them from the bullying.

fair enough SP, I am pragmatic enough to acknowledge the point you highlight but I am fearful of the periphery of the general existance such a child may have.
OK, I'm back....possibly too late for anyone to care, but hey.

Why do homosexuals have to hide in the closet?

Duh.

Because thousands of years of prejudice do not evaporate overnight...it was legalised in the 70s, they pretty much got the blame for starting AIDs in the 80s, and the slow shift into acceptability only began in the 90s. These things take time, namely because so many people are unaccepting and pass those unaccepting views down the generations. That'd include people like you. Would you tell your daughters that they're place is in the home, too?
****, meant "their".
I actually do think that homosexuality is normal. I have said this in another post, that in the year gay marriages were legalised, 30000 couples have married. That means 60000 individuals....and they are just the ones that chose to marry. The problem people have with homosexuality, especially of gay men, is the thought of 'what they do in the bedroom,' and it sickens alot of straight men to their very core. However, it is only one aspect of their life, it does not infringe onto whether they are kind, respectful, hardworking etc etc. There are many 'straight' people who have sickening depravities in the secrecy of thier own homes...I'm sure they could be found in a swift google minute.
As for the animal kingdom, yes, the male sheep is a prolific gay, so much so, that it has been 'kept quiet' until recently!!!!!!!!!!!! Growing up, we had horses and one of them 'William' would think nothing of mounting any of the other geldings, should they get too near.
Perhaps it is the world that needs to open their eyes to what is actually out there, not just what we actually want to believe because of our sensibilities!

Not sure what you mean when you say 'what they do in the bedroom'.

Me and my partner just flick through Heals catalogues and discuss curtain options...

Hey Ctrak - - - - -you are THINKING out loud again, but this time you ARE RIGHT!!!

You are back - but definitely too late for anyone to care.

In future - say your opinion, that's fine. Let others do the same. If their views differ from your own, try not to become abusive.
You wouldn't happen to be a Catholic, would you?

to be or not to be?
the huge diversians of views re is homosexuality unnatural has been disscused so much it is not worth going there.
a connected problem is the world wide tragedy of aids.
this originated with homosexuality and is natures way of reacting.
SP - Purely for the purposes of clarification - are you 'gay ' ?
Aids cures the gays .... brilliant, what a well thought out thing to say.

Not that HIV is a variant of SIV (monkey HIV) and HIV ORIGINATED in APES. Then probably got transferred through being hunted and eaten by a person. First confirmed case of HIV was found in a male in 1959 in the Congo. Its just people thought the affected were dying of cancer etc We fail to forget it wasnt just gay sex that made Aids such a widespread disease, easier travel helped it cross continents, drug use and blood transfusions and an anticoagulant to benefit haemophiliacs where one unit of infected of donated blood coufld infect 100s of batched of this drug.

Blimey, it shocks me that in 2007, people still think like you!!
Shocking but regrettably true. I even mentioned it earlier.

I don't think sp1814's gay, might be wrong, but I just thought he's a bit effeminate. Perhaps he could step in on this.
You might all like to know that the AB Ed is quite happy for people to say flat out that adoption by homosexuals is bad, but not to say that adoption by Catholics is bad. I know this because my post to this effect was removed. So homphobia only from now on, OK?
what was edited out of CTRAKs post? I cant remember him saying anything that wasnt sensible.
Someone mentioned to be last night that they thought that by knowingly going into a homosexual relationship waved our rights to have children as it was your choice to lead that lifestyle. I tried to argue that it wasnt a choice and that it was infact your genetic make up. I also pondered whether if people really thought that, do they also think that a woman who had unprotected sex and contracted chlamydia, then leaving her infertile, should also wave the right to be able to adopt because she knew that by having unprotected sex could lead to infertility. He of course didnt agree.
