This means that 80% of crimes are committed by good old Brits !!
I think that any foreigner should be put forward for deportation if the crime is serious enough.
I also agree with the Dutch governments way in dealing with asylum seekers. If they fail to get asylum deport them back to their own country until their appeal is heard. That way we don't have to pay for their up keep.

I might be getting my maths wrong here (I barely scraped a C grade at my O Levels), so bear with me...
As IggyB has pointed out, London has an immigrant population of about 24-25%...if 20% of London crimes are committed by immigrants, doesn't it mean that immigrant criminals aren't pulling their weight?
Serious point - if we're going to have foreign criminals coming here, why aren't they making up the full 25% of London crimes?
Incidentally, can anyone pull up a Daily Mail article which outlines any positive aspects of immigration, say over the past 20 years?
A prize for the first one back with a link.

stokemaveric, I agree with what you are saying. What I can't understand is why anyone who is seeking asylum and who commits an offence is not deported. If any Brits get caught fighting or stealing whilst on holiday they get put in jail for a few days and then sent home. What's the difference with foreigners committing offences here? Why not send them home.
IggyB and Jake are right. Every group or category of people has criminal elements (save for the obvious exceptions of babies etc.).
This article, yet another Daily Mail masterpiece, actually highlights that immigrants on the whole are responsible for less crime. The last figures I read said that 30% of people in London were immigrants. If they were to commit their "share" of crime they would would be responsible for nearly one in 3 crimes. This is not the case. So why then should criminals of foreign origin be treated any more harshly that British criminals? Should British criminals be deported to their ancestral homelands?

That point you raised about Brits committing crimes abroad is simply not true.
I've been to Magalluf and Aiya Napa and I've seen the way that some young Brits abroad treat the locals...in many holiday resorts, they have the run of the place.
You might be talking about football hooligans, but they're treated completely differently in Europe.

Uh-oh...here we go:

I'm trying to find out whether supposition that asylum seekers who commit serious crimes automatically lose their right to stay.
Also, can anyone tell me what level of crime counts? What about littering?
Would you hand on heart say "This fella who dropped a fag end on the street shall be deported back to Zimbabwe and I don't care whether he's arrested at the airport, tortured and eventually killed"?
I know it's a ridiculously extreme example, but that's the only example we can follow if we allow ourselves to be dailymailed

Well thank you very much for your very valuable contribution to this post kyra16. I hold my hands up, yes it is indeed Romania, second key down from the u is the o, how could I be so careless, and what a very clever girl you are for spotting the mistake, I bet you even know where Romania is don't you?
To address the more serious subject of foreign criminals. Yes I agree we do have enough of our home grown criminals. But do we need to add to this number needlessly? They are also bringing into this country their very own brand of crimes.
