Think of it as friendly advice.
If there were no warnings on cigarette packets or alcohol adverts, people would accuse them of doing nothing to stop people killing themselves.
They're not stopping you from drinking/eating salt/smoking. They're just making you aware of the facts. Feel free to ignore them.

Did you notice the North / South divide. The affluent south east could only manage to be good at harmful drinking. You have to come to the north west for proper hazardous imbibing.

I was shocked into stopping drinking in April after blood tests for something else entirely showed my liver is damaged.
I was never drunk, never had a hang over, but did drink a bottle of wine a day, every day. A couple of glasses at lunch time and finish the bottle during the evening.
The last result showed a marked improvement - but still not right. Next test due in November.
I was very lucky to have the blood test, I think.

I am with Sweep2k on this one. Especially as if the government didn't inform the public, no doubt someone would then try and sue the government if they found they had health problems associated with excessive drinking.
Booldawg have you seen someone die because their liver is cancerous due to booze, I have and it was terrible for us and I don't think my father relished it overmuch.
