m.p's to claim 22k

m.p's can now claim 22k each year for doing out their second house! what a cheek, some people are living on the streets cos they cant afford a first house let alone a second one, its disgusting, what do you think?

it's in the nature of MPs' jobs (except Londoners) that they need two homes, one in London and one in their constituencies, so they can represent their constituents in parliament. If this isn't a permitted expense (and of course it used not to be), then the only people who will become MPs will be those who have enough money to afford two homes out of their own pocket. Do you want a parliament consisting entirely of rich landowners, the way it was in the 1800s? That wouldn't seem very representative to me.

I think that, as jno says, the nature of the job necessitates them having two abodes. Having said that, the greedy, parasitic nature of our politicians then kicks in and any "allowances" that are not tightly regulated and policed are quickly abused and exploited. The sad thing is that they are ALL the same, but who votes them into office?

Mps who represent constituencies outside London do not need to purchase a London home. As we all know not all Mps are in parliament at one and the same time. What would be wrong with B&B for the nights when it is impossible for them to return to their constituencies and have this as an allowable expense?

The fundamental flaw with Mps expenses is that they set the standard for themselves. Wouldn't it be great if we could all do that in our working lives.....never going to happen!

A complete overhaul of the parliamentary system is the only thing that could change this situation.

At the next general election vote for anyone but the sitting MP and then see how quickly they take notice of what their constituents really want.

Maybe the government should buy up a couple of old council tower blocks,do them up and house the MP's in them when they have to be in London.

Well I have to work in London and I have to stop in rough digs and pay huge taxes so why shouldn't they.
As has been said pigs snouts and troughs - from all sides.

btw has anyone noticed how all parties go quiet on the subject when anyone from any party is hauled over the coals?

Any of you ever spent the day @ The House's Of PARLIMENT? try it .It would paint a different picture, most MPs are there from 8:30 till 6.7.8.9 &10pm. They need a 2nd home in London, how else do they spend any quality time with their wive's and children. yes i agree the expenses for interior's are a little steep.

The whole point about allowances is that they are meant to ensure that MPs do not lose out, in terms of expense, because of the necessities of their position, not that they should gain a benefit.

I never received the memo to indicate that TVs, Hi-Fis, DVD Recorders and Food Mixers have been downgraded from a 'luxury' to a 'necessary'.
