Christ- so ANYONE who has a child round about that age is subject to "is that Maddie?"

My own child looks very similar to her as well, with her being nearly 4 (close enough) are we going to be filmed each time we pop to Asda and plastered across the papers??

Hi teram - It's so frustrating! There have been so many possible sightings & so many opportunities for people to have confronted a situation where they had thought they had seen Maddie!! I really hope they get her back safe.

We probably have 15 years of this to look forward to. With age progression techniques, there will be pictures of what she might look like aged 5, 10 and 15 years old published at regular intervals.

What puzzles me is if Maddie was kidnapped, and is now wandering around with a stranger, why is she not kicking up a huge fuss and screaming the place down?

I'm no expert Whiffey but children are programmed to more or less do as their told by an adult, so if an adult, especially a stranger tells them to do something/ be quiet etc, they do it.

don't get me wrong terambulan- I have every sympathy for the Mccanns, especially madeleine if the poor mite is still alive. I've had many a 'battle' on here defending them to the hilt, but I fail to see how any CCTV footage of blonde children walking down a street is achieving anything. For a start the film is wayyy too grainy to make any judgements.

You can't change basic features though. Technology can measure facial features/ face shape/height ect.. And she has that individual eye fleck thing.

There are many reasonable explanations, here are some:

1. It's a hoax. Where are all the people on a Monday?

2. The woman is a childminder/nanny - lots of people in Brussels have them.

3. She is a relative of the child.

I personally hope that this may be a breakthrough as this is not the first reported sighting in Brussels in the past week or so.I may be that its the same child but what makes it stand out for me is that she has been been agitated and has spoken in an English accent.

Now we all know there are MEPs who reside in Brussels so there is a high chance that there will be english speaking blonde girls around Madeleines age but just to play the devils advocate here -when do any of us stop doubting any potential sightings?

It will be a sad day when we all become cynics.

I still live in hope not only for Madeleine but for all the children who have been abducted and for all the parents who never give up hope.A living nightmare.

Can you just imagine how much the publishers of the Mail/Express would love it if it was proven that she'd been abducted by Muslims?

If she's been living with Arab speaking people, or people who speak any language other than English, she will not be speaking English now.

Children of that age pick up new languages very quickly.

I am disheartened a wee bit by some of the cynical replies -surely even a slight bit of cautious optimism towards this glimmer of hope would have been forthcoming.Its not political -its real life (yip there is a differnce) so why be cynical -I am bemused -but hey I have just absconded from CB -saw the light -apart from a few little posts just to keep the home fires burning :)

You can tell that from this pathetic image! To me it just looks like a dark haired woman, and as for the girl looking like maddie, quite frankly it could be anyone it is so poor.

Dris - if any these sighting are Madeleine, whether it is Venezuela, Amsterdam, Brussels or anywhere else she has supposedly been seen, what good does splashing it all over the media do?

If any of these sighting are genuine, those who have her will be long gone. They've been warned they have been rumbled.

If none of them are genuine, and she is still alive, it is telling the abductors to keep her even more in hiding, in heavier disguise and so on.

It helps nobody.

i do hope they find her really soon the picture on tv does look like her a bit i was in turkey 2 weeks ago and im looking at every child that looks like her i do hope this ends really soon and they find her her family must be in bits everytime there is a sighting but has everyone forgotten little ben needham he is still missing and no one is talking about him
