RAF short of men
I was reading in the paper that the RAF is so short of men, that they are going to recruit men from Jamaica.
That is how my Dad came here.
What do you all thnk of this??
Obviously, they will be allowed to stay, once their duty is over. It will add to the 2 million below!!!!

Actually, it's not true that black soldiers will be given leave to remain.
Is that what worries you?
Do you have a link to this story?
It will be great if there is a drive to recruit more black pilots etc. West Indian regiments proved loyal during the second world war and it would be honourable for the tradition to continue.

I don't know the answer to that one Tranmere, but my dad said, a whole heap of them came over and were based in Scotland.
My dad did not actually fly the plane but was involved in gunnery! He did not fight for long as he said when he came the war was winding down.
He met my mum at a dance and decided to stay on in England!!

I don't know the numbers off the top of my head. I went to the excellent 'From War to Windrush' exhibition at the Imperial War Museum a month ago.
I was ashamed by my own ignorance on what West Indians did in the war effort.
I 'spose like a lot of people, I'd been brainwashed into thinking that WWII was exclusively fought amongst white Britons.
I look forward to reading the next post by some ignoramus who complains about immigration ("Our grandparents would turn in his grave if he knew about immigration to come").
Now I can say, "Shut up...our grandparents fought and died for your sorry a*ses.
But on a serious note - it's an excellent exhibition. A real eye opener.
