I wonder about no frills airlines, my colleague booked a flight for him and his wife yesterday from Aberdeen to Dublin with Ryanair. The price of the ticket was 0.00 (yes, really!), all he had to pay for was 20.00 air taxes for each of them, which is standard.
I wonder how on earth these airlines manage to keep themselves profitable.

no-frills airlines charge you for the frills. You'll pay extra for food, checking in at the airport, putting luggage in the hold, paying by credit card etc - your colleague should check the website before assuming 0 is all there will be. XL were more of an old-fashioned charter airline than a modern no-frills one, I think.
Ryanair area load of crooks.
If everything goes well, fine, although as jno says, they have loads of ways to get money out of you.
If anything goes wrong, don't expect any help or sympathy from them. If you complain it will get you nowhere.
They aren't too kind to their staff either - the cabin crew have to pay for their training and uniforms.
Even a pilot who wants a job has to pay for his or her CV to be looked at! I believe thay get it back if they take up a job offer.
