This is shocking. I didn't realise witchcraft still held such a hold over people in a modern world. Do many African nations still follow these ancient and traditional belief systems?

You are not talking 'a modern world' here.

These are cultures where superficial integration into 'civilisation' masks the power of thousands of years of black magic and superstition. As long as these superstitions are handed down through families - and some of the most apparently civilised and affluent people still believe in these 'medicinces', this barbaric trade will continue.

It's a bit beyond the pale isn't it.

I remember that story, pauln90. It is heartbreaking to think such ritual killings continue in this day and age.
When the footballer Marc Vivien-Foe broke his leg back in the 90s he had it set in hospital but he stated he would rather have had his local witchdoctor mend it by placing it in a hole in the ground packed out with straw and setting fire to it...
Yes,having lived in Africa for nearly 50 years,I have seen it all,and there is no way of eradicating it,it is instilled in them from birth. Witchcraft is a way of life.
