Apparently Boris is stepping down as chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/8482549.stm

He said when elected he was going to personally "take charge"

That doesn't seem to have lasted very long

Still have "bendy" busses too I hear.

Is Boris lacking in the political stamina department do you think?

Can't find a link and my memory is a bit sketchy, but I think the Government have just created a London Policing Committee, which will duplicate most of the functions of the Metropolitan Police Authority, but probably have more power within the Government to influence change.

Boris has bailed out as Chairman of the MPA because being an ex-MP, he knows that it has now been stripped of all its powers.

Quite why the Government didn't undermine the MPA during Ken's reign is a mystery.
Could it be he has had the wink for a top cabinet post on the next government, and he is reducing his responsibilities?
Good point. Chief jester I think.

Golly! Crumbs!
Yep; London's just a little bubble of joy to live in these days and the streets are also paved with gold once again.

Those bendy buses are a nightmare, I still can't believe they changed the famous 12 bus route to one of those god awful things. A real danger to cyclists though so maybe there's some positive points about them.... ;0)
Bendy busses are on the way out. Some routes already have had them removed.

I guess you prefer Red Ken then Jake ?

I don't live in London youngmafbog - not for 25 years - so I can't really say

I still find it hard to see what the fuss was about with bendy busses.

But Boris seems to lack a certain political stamina!

I think we've all met the type - likes to storm in and take control and then hand over to someone else when the boring hard work starts
Hard to see the fuss as in 'why did they bring them in?' or 'why do people hate them so much?'
The odd thing about Bendy-buses is that they work perfectly well in other British Cities and other European Cities, it just seems that Londoners are particular drawn to underneath their wheels.
Probably just because London is particularly small and densely packed.... And there's a lot of people who think the traffic lights are just there because they look pretty.
