"Also why do you get more money for every child you have whilst on benefits?" People who work don't get extra from their employers when they have children. As a rule, employers do not pay extra to their married employees either.
With State Pensions, a married couple can both receive pensions based only on the fact that one of them had paid NI contributions, is that fair?
Apologies, the quotation marks were put in the wrong place, it should have read "Also why do you get more money for every child you have whilst on benefits? People who work don't get extra from their employers when they have children " etc.
naomi Your question on unemployment benefits in Germany are 80% of the wage of your last job for one year and 50% thereafter , with no time limit . Their government is now trying to limit it but they have a proportional voting system which results in a multi party coalition and its almost impossible to enact any controversial proposals. The East German parties, as an example, always vote down any restriction on benefits.
Maybe someone could tell me how it is possible for a very fit man I know who has been on benefits for the past 20 years and has now started to draw his state retirement pension.
I should have mentioned he always has the latest model car , has paid off the morgage on a very nice house and enjoys holidays abroad.
When I spoke to him recently he said " Now I'm a pensioner maybe people will stop calling me a sponger " So he is well aware of his neighbours opinions.
