Seeing that he has not been found guilty yet of the charges against him, I thought it unfair to comment on these.
What I would wish to comment on, is the fact that he entered and won the Mr Gay UK title.
Why as a serving police officer was he was allowed to enter such a contest, has to be questioned, especially when it was reported, he appeared in a police-style outfit, including a stab-proof vest.
He said "I thought telling people I was gay would mean no one would want to know me, but at the Mr Gay UK final I had more people supporting me than I’ve ever had in my life".
Er, could that be that all those at the Mr Gay final, were also gay?

Why not? While it's not an especially private thing, he did it in his spare time so it's not really related.
He doesn't seem to be wearing a uniform in the picture in this article (which as far as I can tell is from the actual contest):

I expect what he probably meant was the stereotype of gay men as extremely effeminate/incapable of 'butch' professions such as the police force.

I would have thought that most heterosexual persons would find the thought of gay practices to be distasteful, just as most homosexuals would find the thought of heterosexual practices distasteful.

I understand what you're saying here (and yes there's a degree of truth in it), but you'd be surprised at how many homos and heteros genuinely don't really care what the 'other side' do between the sheets.
Regardless of that, though, I don't think it follows logically to go from being a bit grossed out about other peoples' sex lives to specifically starting a thread so that you can grumble about some dumb competition they held. I don't think that's normal at all, if I'm honest with you.

It was an item in the news, that I supposed would foster debate, which it obvious did, seeing that I started 3 threads, and this one was the only one so far to attract discussion.
Just because a thread for some reason upsets certain person's agenda , isn't a good enough reason for a thread not to be entered on AB.

But the bulk of your OP, as I said, just appears to be you grumbling about the Mr Gay UK contest from 3 years ago (the winner of which is the subject of news), by making a few minor swipes at a couple of comments said winner made at the time.

until your lot get your way this is still a relatively liberal country built by good men and women that were prepared to fight and die so that we can all enjoy the freedom to associate and express ourselves. A police man is no less free to publicly announce his sexuality in his spare time than anyone else - and in a way I understand his reasoning re changing perceptions as the media typically only focus on the very camp so it could be useful to show the more sheltered in society that not all gay men are hairdressers but are soldiers, builders, red indians and cops ... actually i think i've gone off point here

What do you mean by 'practices'? Are you categorising the contests as 'practices'? Because I'd use that word to describe the sexual activities, but are you using it to describe literally anything that homo- or heterosexual people do?

Why does it bother you so much? When was the last time you even thought about the Mr Gay UK (Or Mr UK for that matter) contest before you saw this thread? I can honestly say I had only a basic understanding that either of them even existed before AOG bought it up.
