Should she/he have been sent to jail?

Just because jail would have been an “appalling experience” for her, and she would have had to serve her sentence out in a male prison, was it any reason for her not receiving a prison sentence?
If she is legally a female, why would she have to be sent to a male prison? If it is her safety they are concerned about, why not be sent to a female prison?.

Please people, let's not queue up to post 'it's what she deserves / let the cons do their worst / death's too good for her' and so on, while we try to prove who can be most self-righteously angry about what they read in the media.
It doesn't help any of us.

have you had an accident of some sort, Zeuhl? Good luck with getting over it if so.
This person is lucky to have got off lightly, but it's probably for the best: you could build prisons for transssexuals but it hardly seems worth the effort. The 'segregation wing' would have seemed a possibility - if so I don't know why it wasn't considered.
It seems however that the offence was on the slightly lesser side - downloading child porn rather than acutually abusing a child. I'm aware of the argument that even buying the stuff contributes to child abuse; but it's a less serious offence in my opinion, and considering the other factors you could just about make a case for her staying out of jail. I would have tried it if I'd been her lawyer.

LOL jno
Well I did a lot of AB-ing Jan onwards from my bed-of-pain and subsequent sofa-of-pain. I think the tetchiness of my AB posts over the past seven months was directly related to how much boredom, frustration or pain I was experiencing at the time.
In retrospect; sorry to anyone on the receiving end of any of it!
