England is now the most overcrowded country in Europe with,

402.1, people per square kilometre,

Wales 145.6, people per square kilometre,

Northern Ireland 128.2, people per square kilometre,

Scotland 67.0.people per square kilometre,

The problem our increased population problem is not immigration, but the fact that people are living a lot longer than they did 50 years ago.

That far exceeds the number of immigrants. I blame the cold weather payments, keeping aged people alive a lot longer than necessary, an increasing burden on the taxpayer. Thankfully the Tories are scraping cold weather payments so that should see off a few and make more room for the rest of us.

aog, the Mail story says "England is now the most overcrowded country in Europe".

Except... it isn't NOW (it's just a prediction for next year, which might or might not come true) and it isn't THE MOST OVERCROWDED because Malta is more densely populated, as are several other countries, which I listed but the Mail mysteriously did not.

So the Mail's story is a lie, isn't it?

And while you say the word 'overcrowded' came from the House of Commons library, I'm prepared to bet that's another lie from the Mail.

So now the Mail wants to shock the numbers are calculated for "England" and not Britain because that would mess up the figures!

Oh wait I hear the objections "who cares about the sweaties we don't live there" (thank you virtual Geezer)

But that's the point - we don't live in the whole of England.

You have to look at the population in local areas.

We don't have an overpopulation problem as a country - we have a overpopulation problem in some urban areas.

People need to spread out more - we need more new towns

I did say that i would not debate with you - by which i meant respond directly to your posts on any thread - yours or others. That is what I meant when I said I had posted on the thread, as opposed to debating with you - there is a distinct difference.

As to our mutual insults - at the risk of sounding about five years old - you did start it with your 'likes of you ...' comment to which i took exception.

Yes you are quite right, the headline was misleading, I make no apology for the Daily Mail except to say they did try and verify the fact by saying "Only tiny Malta, an island city state with a population no bigger than that of Bristol, has greater population pressure among the 27 EU members".

Regarding the other example you gave the Vatican, Monaco, The Channel Isles, none are members of the EU.

So you also could be accused of lying.

But please let me explain my expression "the likes of you" I cannot see how this was an actual insult, you had first tried to Psycho-Analysis me, to which rightly or wrongly I took offence to, hence the "likes of you" meaning from you.

Anyway all in the past now I hope, and may we continue to debate without the insults, because as I have said I don't normally revert to insults until they are first aimed at me, tit-for-tat and al that, childish perhaps but eh!

Let's leave the insults to those that know no better.

Without these pensioners you so much despise (even though you may become one yourself one day) there would be no jake-the-peg.

AOG - I think we are both at the mercy of misinterperetations which occur in the printed exchange, because phrases or expressions can be misunderstood and lost in translation, even between two such erudite debaters as ourselves.

Holland has a population of 6,065,459 and a density of 1105/km² ,the Flemish Region has a population of 6,161,600 and a density of 456/km².

If you disregard the area covered by water in The Netherlands (18.4%) that gives a population density of 484/km².

All these figures show England does NOT have the highest density.
