Is England now full?

England is now the most overcrowded country in Europe with,
402.1, people per square kilometre,
Wales 145.6, people per square kilometre,
Northern Ireland 128.2, people per square kilometre,
Scotland 67.0.people per square kilometre,
/// However some members of the Coalition, notably Business Secretary Vince Cable, are hostile to any move to reduce immigration and sympathetic to calls from industry to allow more foreign workers into the country.///
Could the question of immigration be the matter that will finally break-up the coalition agreement, or perhaps as a compromise the door to England could be tightly shut, and the other three countries that make-up the UK, made to take in their fair share?

To simply stop immigration would be a retrograde step.
However, immigration restrcitions, as are applied by most develope countries, appear to be lacking, and shoule be introduced and applied in order to ensure that people coming in are able to support themselves, and to contribute to the further development of our culture and society.

typically phoney story from the Mail: 'most overcrowded country'. Exactly who says it's OVER crowded? The Mail does. And 'the most overpopulated country in Europe'? Well, fancy that - they've 'forgotten' to mention Monaco (16,000 per sq km), Gibraltar (4,500), the Vatican (2,000), Malta (1,300 - actually, it does mention Malta then mysteriously doesn't include it), Guernsey...
How's that for accurate journalism?
Anyway, the answer is obvious: Britons who feel overcrowded should move to Scotland.

Completely agree with andy-huges.
I could be wrong but I believe as we are an aging population (baby boomers reaching retirement age) combined with a falling birth rate we need immigrants paying tax etc in to the system to help support any chance of keeping our pension etc in future.
Completly agree with andy-huges.

So pleased you have re-joined me in debate, after such a short time away.
Yes I agree the type of immigration we enjoyed in the past, has certainly made our isles what they are.
But now mass immigration from all corners of the earth, that has been allowed to continue, by all parties, just cannot go on.
Perhaps as you say, a very small proportion of self supporting workers (only those that we are in need of) should be allowed in.
What we do not need are masses of peoples who cannot support themselves, cannot speak the language, are not prepared to interrogate, and want to live in ghettos that mirror the image of the country they came from.
There I think we have almost come to some partial agreement, but I await any further comments.

/// Exactly who says it's OVER crowded? The Mail does.///
A typical example fro one of the Daily Mail Hate Brigade, I know you are not too smart, but at the very least I would have thought you could read.
/// The confirmation of England's position at the head of the European overcrowding league table was given by the highly authoritative House of Commons library, which examined figures from the Office for National Statistics and the EU's Eurostat.///
Not the Daily Mail you see, but a pretty reliable source it seems.
I don't know why you said it mentions Malta but then doesn't include it, it is top of the list, above England.
How's that for selective reading?
Regarding your suggestion that "Britons who feel overcrowded should move to Scotland"
You would just love that wouldn't you, all the indigenous population.to move to Scotland, and then our fair country, inhabited by foreigners.
The last time anyone tried to take our country was in 1940, and you should know how successful that was.

You don't have to believe in Labours propaganda, which tried to verify their abysmal immigration policy, we are far from becoming a dying population, even if we were to stop immigration today.
/// The ONS figures highlight one legacy from the surge of immigration in the mid-2000s, with the proportion of new babies born to mothers born outside the UK reaching a record high of 24.7%.///
/// Pakistan, Poland and India top the list for mothers countries' of origin. Newham, in east London, has the highest proportion of such births – more than 75%.///
