I don't think we hate our country, the English just have a very low opinion of themselves - you don't get it of the Welsh or the Irish and certainly not of the Scots. We have a grumbling nature - look how we are never happy with the weather, our government, our kids, our beer....

^^or maybe it's not a low opinion of themselves, it's just they are an accepting bunch in the main. I love my country, it has variety like nothing else, but I wouldn't mind a health service like they have in Spain.

I think I can honestly say, hand on heart, that there's no other place i'd want to call home. True like Lottie I'd love a holiday home somewhere hot, the UK is and always will be my home.

I think of England as your (my) aged grandad, he's old, slightly embarrassing sometimes, lets you down occasionally, but you love him all the same.

Boxtops, I think you find far more scenic variety in some other Europe countries than you will find in Britain. France and Spain which I have visited by bicycle, motorbike, car and yacht are amazing places once you get away from the holiday resorts and beaches surrounded by hotels. Spain has the only desert in europe, France has the highest sand dune in Europe (about 300 feet if I remember correctly) Both have Glaciers, They have gorges that you could lose cheddar gorge in many times over. The forest of Landes in SW France is enormous(about 5000 sq. miles) it take hours to drive through it. The meseta in nothern Spain is a huge area of natural grassland like the North American prairie. The Douro valley in Portugal is astonishing. Where in Britain do you see columns of vultures wheeling in thermals, deserted mediaeval villages on hilltops and a landscape dotted with boulders the size of a 2 story house.
I hear lots of people say that Britain has all you need, no need to go elswhere. Many of these people have hardly been outside their own county, let alone country. Go and have a look you will be amazed.

I used to joke that I'd never want to move to a foreign country because they're full of foreigners.........but these days that's how to describe this country

it is easy to get in the uk but so hard to get out.... i know alot of people who hate it here (myself included) and we hate the fact lwe have joined rthe eu and we are inundated with people from other countries and our own country cant cope with the number.
the money earned is being sent back to other countries so it is no wonder that we are in a recession.
but you try and get into other countries and it is nigh on impossible... we dont want to stay in a country we hate but we are trapped

What countries have you tried tweeny. I know plenty of people of all ages that have left this country and quite a few that have come back as well. The grass is always greener on the other side!

Yes we have many faults and equally many good points, I love our weather, no extremes of temperature, no life endangering floods or heatwaves, generally speaking.
